A GlobeMed Partnership

The GlobeMed partnership model was born from the need for sustainable, authentic, and relationship driven efforts in global health. Through anti-oppressive partnership, students and grassroots organizations work together to bring about better health outcomes for their communities.

How Partnerships Work

GlobeMed Headquarters pairs each university-based chapter with a grassroots organization already improving the health of its community. Year after year, students and grassroots leaders collaborate on projects that deepen and expand the organization's impact. The most important aspect of this relationship is shifting power to community leaders who know it best.

"I don’t think it’s possible to solve systemic injustices without including people who represent the consequences of what could happen if we get these things wrong.” - Cameron Clarke, GlobeMed at Howard University

Students and partners connect through video-chat, email, phone, and more to build strong relationships, and during the fall of every year they jointly define a project that meets a crucial need of the community.

Some areas which students & partners tackle through partnership include:

Students mobilize essential resources for the project's success while learning and training to become advocates for global health, and partner organizations use fundraised resources to strategically implement critical projects in their community.

The Result: Grassroots organizations have a greater capacity to serve their community, and students gain real-world expertise and insights from the front lines of the movement for health equity.

Every year, GlobeMed chapters and partners join together for more personalized connections and collaborative work. We call these experiences Grassroots Onsite Work, or GROW, Internships. Although the current COVID-19 pandemic has transformed this year's GROW internships from in-person to virtual experiences, the community building achieved through these annual events have not stopped. In fact, some students and partners have felt more connected with increased internet connection.

We hope that when it is globally safe and appropriate to commence international travel, that we can support students and partners' in-person GROW internships once again. Until then, GlobeMed virtual GROW experiences are happening and working!
