Welcome to the first edition of this academic year’s monthly newsletter, designed to help students with their post 16 option choices and enrichment opportunities.
One of the first steps in thinking about your post 16 options is to research what is available to you. This issue will give you information on how to do that.

Think about the subjects you enjoy, that you are good at and research new subjects that will be open to you after Year 11.
Attend open events to see what is being offered, making sure you look carefully at the subject content, if they suit your learning style, entry requirements and where they could lead to in the future. Do consider the journey and if it is practical for you to travel to.
If you have any questions, make a note of them to ask with either a member of staff or at the open event.
Discuss ideas with your family, form tutor, subject teachers, or the schools Careers Advisor.
Use the careers software and information sites in the newsletters to help you research further.
Once you have decided, start applying making a note of application deadlines. You can apply to more than one place.
What you study at sixth form or college can affect your options at university and your future career.
Informed Choices guidance will give you the start you need in deciding what to study, particularly at Russell Group universities: www.informedchoices.ac.uk.
The website includes a tool for students to test out different combinations of post 16 subjects to see which degrees they could lead on to.
Not sure what you want to do once you leave school? Do not rush into making a decision, make sure you have researched all the options to find the right path for you. UCAS can help you get started.
