Year 7

Thursday 18 December 2025
We kicked off this week with our year group Celebration Assembly which gave us the chance to really come together as a group and support one another, recognising and celebrating achievements as individuals, tutor groups and as Year 7.
One fantastic piece of data I was able to share was the total achievement points that have been awarded to the group since September. Now on Monday, this total was 21,610 which is AMAZING (and the highest in the school), but even since then the students have not stopped their efforts, and we finish the year on a final total of 22,593.
Two shout-outs in particular for Hugh S in 7A for the most achievement points in this half-term, and to Oscar L-Win 7B for the highest achievement points in total since September - well done to both students, but also to everyone else for their contributions to that final number.
It has been a long term for the students and I’m sure they have all found it challenging at different points. Lots of new places to learn, new names and faces and adjusting in general to being at Glyn, but they have all settled in so well - it feels like they have been here for years! So many positives to celebrate and I hope they are all proud of how they have taken on these first 4 months.
I wish you all a safe, joyous holiday season and the happiest of New Years - I look forward to welcoming the students back in 2026.
*just a reminder that when we return, it will be week 2!

Update on the Blackout App Trial
Following our trial of Blackout, which began in February 2025, we have reviewed our experience and made the difficult decision not to continue with its implementation at Glyn. This decision was primarily due to ongoing technical issues and challenges with reinstalling the app.
We remain committed to reducing mobile phone usage at Glyn and have observed that the Blackout trial did help to reduce phone use during school hours. We kindly ask that you continue to remind your child to keep their mobile phone switched off while on school premises. This includes mornings if students arrive early and spend time in the canteen. Our goal is to encourage positive social interactions, where mobile phones do not distract from conversations or engagement with others.
Our mobile phone policy remains unchanged, and any phones seen in school without permission will be confiscated.
We would like to thank Parents and Carers for your patience, support, and engagement during the pilot. While Blackout may not be the solution for Glyn at this time, the trial has informed discussions in PSCHE sessions about healthy mobile phone usage. Going forward, we hope to create further opportunities to raise awareness and reduce phone use across the Glyn community.
For those who installed the app, please remove it from your child’s phone.
Thank you for your continued support as we work to foster a school culture where technology is used wisely, responsibly, and for the benefit of all.
