The project and timing have benefited from the State and PUC’s focus on wildfire mitigation, pressure on utilities to avoid liability from ignitions and NV Energy’s obligation to harden the lines. Still, Glenbrook is a relatively affluent community that can only raise so much from outside sources.
Effective March 12, 2021, Glenbrook Underground, Inc was granted 501(c)3 tax-exempt charitable organization status so that all contributions to the project will be tax deductible.
Donations from our Board members have covered the costs of NV Energy’s design and other activities to date, and we have completed and paid for all civil engineering. Board members chose to underwrite the upfront costs as a contribution to the community justified by the importance of the project.
Over the last several months, as the project became viable, we have assembled and refined cost estimates for the project. We currently expect the cost to range from $16.5M-$17.5M, NV Energy will be contributing a sizeable portion of the costs. We will be seeking tax deductible donations from our community.
