Decorate your pouaka mēra (letterbox) with a favourite Māori kupu!
People throughout Aotearoa have been decorating their pouaka mēra (letterboxes) to brighten the days of passers-by. Some are even putting Māori kupu (words) on them to teach tāngata (people) some new new Te Reo Māori on their way past!
Let's put a favourite Māori kupu on our letterbox to make it look ātaahua (beautiful) and teach each other some new kupu.
On a piece of cardboard or paper, write a Māori kupu (word) in big letters - click here to find a fun word from the Māori dictionary!
Decorate your kupu with colour & any drawings you like
Protect your kupu from the elements:
- Cover it with sellotape
- Or put it in a ziplock bag that you tape shut
Display your kupu on your pouaka mēra (letterbox) for your community!
