Volunteer hours must be completed through a Non-Profit Organization, such as a school, charity, church, government institution, club, etc. You may NOT receive community service hours for unpaid work/help that you provide to an individual or a for profit business.
Working the concessions stand during school events
Helping with athletic events--for example, assisting coaches at Middle School meets, helping at a camp, etc.
Helping a teacher or club with a special project
Working with a teacher as a tutor to other students
Genoa Chamber of Commerce
Genoa Public Library
A church or community club/organization
The Barn on Baseline
Tails
DeKalb County Forest Preserve
There are many other volunteer opportunities outside of DeKalb County as well! Just remember that Community Service Hours must be linked to a legitimate nonprofit organization. If you are unsure whether your volunteer service will count, check with Mrs. Miranda or your counselor first.
