Activity Ideas: Below is a list of activities you can do with your child.

Tornado in Bottle

  • Fill one empty two liter bottle ¾ of the way full of water
  • Add a squirt of dish soap
  • Take one empty two liter bottle and put it on top of the filled one (opening to opening)
  • Tape bottle together with duct tape
  • Turn the bottle over and swirl the bottle in a circle a few times
  • You now have your own tornado!

Rainbow Skittle Experiment

Rainbow Walking Water

  • Set up 7 clear cups.
  • Fill the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th cup with water about 3/4 full.
  • Add 5 red drops to the 1st cup and 5 red drops the 7th cup.
  • Add 5 yellow drops to the 3rd cup.
  • Add 5 blue drops to the 5th cup.
  • Fold 1/2 of a paper towel into thirds, put it in the 1st and 2nd cup so it is equally in both cups, do this so all cups are joined with a paper towel. You can have the cups go in a line or a circle.
  • Watch the water mix to make colors in the empty cups.

Stacking Blocks

  • With legos or blocks the children would roll dice and depending on the number that's how many legos/blocks they would stack.
  • Repeat this as many times as they want.
  • Have kids determine which stack is the tallest or which stack has the most legos/blocks.
  • After stacking two dice rolls, they can add 2 stacks together and add the total amount stacked
  • If legos or blocks are not accessible you could use paper and markers. Roll the dice and whatever number is the children would draw that many squares and stack them on top of each other. And follow the same instructions above.

Emotion Stress Balls:

  • using a funnel pour 1 cup of flour into a balloon.
  • tie the balloon shut so no flour falls out.
  • make multiple of these stress balls.
  • let the children draw emotions on each balloon.
  • show the children that they can use these stress balls to express how they are feeling.

Bubble Painting

  • Add three tablespoons of bubble solution and two tablespoons of paint to a cup.
  • Mix the paint and bubble solution together.
  • Place a piece of paper on the grass or a table.
  • Dip the bubble wand or a straw into the bubble paint and then blow out bubbles so they land on the paper.
  • Allow to dry before hanging up the colorful bubble paintings

Erase the ABC’s/Numbers

  • All you will need is an Expo marker and a towel. Use a mirror, glass sliding doors, etc.
  • Choose to write either letters or numbers on your glass/mirror
  • Then you will say a letter/number and the child will find it and erase it as fast as they can! (Try and make it into a game to make it more fun for them)
  • If you don’t have an Expo marker, you could do this easily on a piece of paper and have the child cover the letter/number

Name Hop

  • Take paper plates and write 1 letter on each plate
  • Tape each plate to the floor
  • Children will hop to each letter that spells out their name

Identify, Trace and Write Letters:

Have your child:

  • Identify letters
  • Trace letters
  • Practice writing letters
    • Write your child's name for them to trace
    • Write your child's name and have them use it as reference while they write their name

Move Like An Animal:

You’ll need some open space, but this is a great way to get kids using new muscles. Here are some ideas:

  • Move like a bird (run with arms outstretched)
  • Move like a snake (wiggle on tummies on the floor)
  • Move like a bear (walk on all fours)
  • Move like a frog (get down on haunches and hop)
  • Move like a kangaroo (take big leaps with arms in front of chest)
  • Move like an elephant (with heavy stomping)
  • Move like a penguin (waddle with ankles close together and arms pinned to sides)

Cups Music

  • Watch the Cups video
  • Give kids several cups and a spoon to make their own music
  • Video the kids making music and share it with a friend!

Alphabet Moves

  • Watch alphabet moves video
  • Then have kids make all alphabet letters with their body
  • Watch video again as they make the letter

Creating Patterns

  • Start off by creating a pattern using anything around the house
    • for example you could use paper, markers, spoons, forks, hangers, socks, noodles, or any objects to create a pattern
  • Once you create a pattern have them identify the pattern
  • After the children identify the pattern they can make their own pattern

Story Time

  • Have the child "read" a book to you.
  • They can look at the pictures and tell a story based on the pictures


Create a Book

  • Put a couple pieces of paper together to make a book.
  • Have the child narrate the book while an adult writes for them.
  • After each page have the child draw and color a picture to go along with the story.
  • Book Ideas:
    • "I Like..." On each page have the child finish the sentence "I like..." and then have them draw a picture for each page.
    • "I am thankful for..."
    • Pick their favorite show/book/toy and write about it.

    • Letter book

Color Scavenger Hunt

  • Find one pink item around the house
  • Find one blue object around the house
  • Grab a crayon or marker and color/draw the object on the paper
  • Keep going with more colors!

Counting Cotton Balls

  • Use coffee filters and with a black marker, write a number on each filter.
  • Next put a bunch of cotton balls down on the table
  • Have the child put the right amount of cotton balls in each filter

Build a tower with Straws!

  • Use straws and table to build a huge tower
  • Child may need help with tape
  • To connect each straw use a piece a tape at each end of two straws
  • Continue until you make your amazing tower
