Mrs. Olson

My name is Mrs. Olson and I am so proud to be a Gilbert Tiger! I previously taught Fourth grade and am loving my time in Fifth grade. I love getting to teach this age of students who have such creative minds with a desire to lead and learn. I teach language arts, social studies, and science in my class. My students switch to Mrs. Rivera for math and Mrs. Stephenson for reading. 

I graduated from the University of Northern Iowa was a degree in elementary education as well as Spanish. With that, I have a minor in middle-level education and a literacy endorsement too. I completed my Master of Education and Teacher Leader and Instructional Coaching Certificate from Viterbo University.

My husband Zach and I live in Ames and have a 5-year-old pitbull named Dawson who is our pride and joy. We both love to travel, be outside, and spend time with our families. I love to scrapbook and have a goal to visit all 5 states and all 7 continents. 

I believe it is imperative that students have good conversation and writing skills so they are able to explain their thoughts as well as facilitate discussions with those whose ideas may differ from theirs. To do this I believe in developing a positive classroom culture and exposing students to new thoughts, ideas, traditions, and cultures. I am also a firm believer in the power of creativity, and engagement.
