Year at a glance..

Our curriculum is based on the Common Core. We will be using many novels, StoryWorks magazines, and National Geographic Ladders nonfiction books for reading.

During reading, we do many small group literature circles, as well as individual and large group activities.  The teachers will hold individual reading conferences with each student several times a trimester to talk about individual reading goals and skills.

This year we will be challenging 5th graders to read 40 books outside of class. Students will record these on their own as they complete them. Any student completing the challenge will receive recognition at the end of the school year!

Writing projects will be based off the work that is done in reading.  Students will work on various projects focusing on narrative, expository, and persuasive styles.
