Adults who work with students in interscholastic activities should present a positive role model for them to emulate. Students who represent a school in interscholastic activities must be creditable school citizens.
The Northern Goldenhills Athletic Association recognizes that the school administration is responsible for all athletic programs and the conduct of all school representatives, whatever the level and location of the competition.
All competition must be conducted with a high standard of courtesy, fair play and sportsmanship. All those involved share a responsibility.
Coaches
Coaches must demonstrate qualities of courtesy and good sportsmanship. These are evidenced by proper acceptance of officials’ judgments, positive encouragement of player performance and bench behavior.
Athletes
Athletes must demonstrate qualities of courtesy and good sportsmanship by proper acceptance of officials’ judgments, and by showing proper respect for opposing athletes as well as for teammates.
Cheerleaders
Cheerleaders must demonstrate courtesy and good sportsmanship by the appropriateness and timeliness of the cheers they lead, respect for the other cheerleaders and athletes, and their attempts at effective crowd control.
Spectators
Spectators, both student and adult, must demonstrate courtesy and good sportsmanship by positive cheers of encouragement for their team, not against the opposing team. This is evidenced by the absence of booing and vulgarities. Spectators must also show proper acceptance of officials’ judgment. Artificial noisemakers are not permitted during events: Badminton, Basketball, Track and Field, and Volleyball. Prohibited noisemakers may include but are not limited to: air horns, cow bells, plastic tube horns, garbage can lids, etc.
Eviction for Inappropriate Language and/or Behaviour
Administrators and teachers must demonstrate courtesy and good sportsmanship by setting a positive example.
During a competition, every member school team should be accompanied by a teacher-coach, teacher-supervisor or an agent of the board.

MEMBERSHIP CLASSIFICATION
Full Member: School athletic programs within the geographic jurisdiction operating full-year, multi-sport programs within the active 6-team limit. Entitled to vote on NGAA bylaws.
Provisional Member: First-year applicant organizations undergoing evaluation before full or associate status approval
LEAGUE CAPACITY
Maximum Cap: To ensure a manageable game schedule and protect the integrity of the academic-athletic calendar, active membership for volleyball and basketballt division is capped at a maximum of six (6) teams.
Scheduling & Season Length Rationale: This 6-team limit allows for a balanced double round-robin regular season (10 games total per team) plus playoffs to fit within the designated sport-season window without overwhelming facility availability, official availability, or student-athlete academic workloads.
Waitlist Policy: Once the 6-team capacity is reached, new applicant institutions will be placed on an official waiting list in order of approved application date and considered as openings arise.

INACTIVITY & MEMBER REVOCATION
INACTIVITY & MEMBER REVOCATION
3-Year Inactivity Rule: Any member school that fails to field any team in both Volleyball and Basketball leagues for three (3) consecutive academic years will automatically forfeit its membership status.
Re-application Requirement: Inactive schools whose membership has been revoked under this clause must re-apply and are subject to current team caps and waitlist order.

APPLICATION
Submission: Prospective members submit a formal application package by May 1 for the upcoming academic year (subject to league cap availability).
Review: The Member Schools review the application based on facility access and open capacity under the 6-team maximum limit.
Provisional Entry: Approved applicants enter a 1-year Provisional Membership period.
Full Status Vote: At the conclusion of the provisional year, the Member schools vote on granting permanent Full or Associate status.
VACANCY PRIORIZATION CRITERIA
When a slot opens due to team withdrawal, probation, or member revocation (including the 3-Year Inactivity Rule), candidates on the Waiting List will be prioritized using a weighted point scale based on the following standard parameters:

JUNIOR HIGH PLAYER ELIGIBILITY GENERAL POLICY
It is suggested that grade 9 students only play on ‘A’ teams but special circumstances will be dealt with on a case by case basis. Schools are to please notify all the other schools of any situation involving a grade 9 player on a ‘B’ team.
Grade 5 or 6 players may play on ‘B’ teams if the following conditions are met:
the grade 5 and 6 students are used to help create a ‘B’ team in that the ‘B’ team must have at least one grade 7 student on it - the ‘B’ team CANNOT be solely made of grade 5s and 6s
the school is 1J (2J schools will need permission from the league to use grade 6s - no grade 5s may be used by 2J schools)
JUNIOR HIGH ZONES QUALIFYING (will be revamped during 2026/27 school year due to new zone policy)
2 teams at the 1J/2J/3J level
Look at the games between the 2 teams and determine who is 1st (may use points for and agains0t for this)
First place team host the second place team on a predetermined evening
Cost of officials split between the teams (including host)
Games will need to be played to allow time for zone host to prepare with proper zone qualifiers name - these dates will be determined at the league meeting
3 teams at the 1J/2J/3J level
Use head-to-head league play to determine placing
Based on head-to-head league play, 2nd plays 3rd at 2nd place team’s gym (split cost of officials)
Winner of above game plays 1st in league play (split cost of officials)
Games will need to be played on consecutive nights to allow time for zone host to prepare with proper zone qualifiers name – these dates will be determined at the league meeting
4 teams at a 1J/2J/3J level
Use head-to-head league play to determine placing
Based on head-to-head league play, 1st plays 4th at 1st place team’s gym (split cost of officials) and 2nd plays 3rd at 2nd place team’s gym (split cost of officials)
Winners of above play the deciding game at the higher seed’s gym (based on league standings) (split cost of officials)
Games will need to be played on consecutive nights to allow time for zone host to prepare with proper zone qualifiers name – these dates will be determined at the league meeting
SENIOR HIGH ELIGIBILITY
All eligibility rules governing our Senior High leagues shall be the rules adopted by the SSA and South Central Zone
SENIOR HIGH ZONE QUALIFICATION
Senior High Zone Qualifications rules shall be governed by the South Central Zone Policies and SSA

Seasons of play for all sports will follow those established by the South Central Zone and SSA.
