Student Eligibility
a. Students in grades 7 to 9 who are enrolled in the school are eligible to participate in the Northern Golden hills Basketball League.
b. Schools may use students in Grade 6 to play in the league if they are unable to field a team of 12 with students from grades 7 to 9. However, the Grade 6 students are unable to participate in zones according to zone policy in 2J and 3J Schools.
c. Grade 5's are allowed to play on a 1J Junior High Basketball team if a school is unable to field a team of grade 6, 7, 8, and 9 students.
Rules
All NGBL basketball competitions shall be governed by the International Basketball Federation rule book (as adopted by the ASAA) with the following exceptions:
a. Size 6 ball for both Jr B Boys and Girls as well as Jr A Girls. Size 7 for 3J ball will be used by Jr A Boys.
b. The Standardize key will be the FIBA block key. Schools that do not have these floor markings will use their current markings.(Dec 1, 2021)
c. Handle in the backcourt.
d. Three-point rule in effect where facility permits.
e. Time limit
Junior A teams will play 8-minute quarters with a one-minute break between quarters and a 5-minute break at half-time.
Junior B teams will play 10-minute run time quarters, with stop time in the last 2 minutes of the game if it is within 10 pts. The clock will also stop on Free throws and time-outs.
f. Alternating possession on all jump ball situations after the opening jump.
g. 8-second backcourt.
h. Informal 24 Second Shot clock
i. In the Result of an Overtime
Junior B teams will play one 4-minute period. If at the end of the extra period the game shall remain a tie.
Junior A teams will play one 4-minute period. If at the end of the first extra period the score is still tied, teams will continue to play 2-minute extra periods until a winner can be decided.
j. FULL COURT PRESS
Junior A Teams may press up to 20 points.
Junior B Teams will not be allowed to press. Players must get back once possession has been determined.
k. ZONE DEFENSE
Junior A teams may play zone defense. However, Zone defense is not allowed at the 3J Zone Competition.
Junior B teams will NOT be allowed to play Zone Defense.
l. DISQUALIFICATION
A disqualification of a player or coach results in a 1-game suspension from their next scheduled game and cannot be present in the gym for that game.

C. DISQUALIFICATION
A disqualification of a player or coach results in a 1-game suspension from their next scheduled game and cannot be present in the gym for that game. The officials will report any disqualification to the league
a. All athletic competitions are to be scheduled outside of the regular school day unless
prior approval has been obtained from School Administration.
b. Senior High games will be scheduled for Wednesday or Monday. Game 1 will tip off at 5:15pm, with Game 2 to follow as soon as possible.
c. Junior High games will be scheduled for Thursday or Tuesday. Game 1 will tip off at 4:15pm, with Game 2 to follow as soon as possible
d. Schools have the right to enter one junior team and one senior team to participate in each level of league play.
e. In computing team standings, a win shall count as one (1) point.
f. In league playoff games, if a school is unable to host due to its facilities not being available, the team will travel to the opposing team's school gym or field.
g. With respect to League Championships, the highest-ranked team in the league standings will receive the advantage and will have the right to host the league championship.
a. Schools are responsible to play games indicated on the schedule or default the games (excluding inclement weather). Notwithstanding this, any requested changes to the league schedule must be documented and submitted to NGBL League to keep a record. Every effort should be made by the opposing team to accommodate the change within a reasonable time.
a. The NGBL will operate within the designated season as per the A.S.A.A. Handbook.
a. In league play where conflict is unavoidable, the HOME TEAM shall wear uniforms of contrasting colours.
b. In all playoff schedules, the team finishing league play with the highest placement shall be declared the home team and shall wear the normal designation of uniform as stated in the playing rules for that sport. If the teams have equal league records and the two teams cannot reach an agreement on sweater/uniform designation, then the Executive Committee shall make the decision and that decision shall be binding on all involved parties.
a. It shall be the responsibility of each school to make arrangements for officials for the league and play-off competition they are involved in.
b. All junior High games should have at least one Carded Official.
