Reading Comp - Solids, Liquids and Gases

May 4-Monday

Good morning, welcome back. Have you finished your Covid feeling and window sightings sections? What could add to them?

Now, let’s work on a read and understand article. This time it is an expository or non fiction article. That means it is about facts! You may remember from science about liquids, solids and gases. Read the article and answer the questions. Remember the directions ask you to go back to the article to find your answers so underline/highlight where you found the answers.

What celebration happens this weekend? If you said Mother’s Day you would be correct! Using the letters below, see how many words you can make. I wonder who in our class can make the most words?

Happy Mother’s Day

May 5-Tuesday

Today let’s start preparing for Mother’s Day. First, you are going to write a letter to your mother to give her on her special day so she feels celebrated! It’s been a while since we wrote letters (Santa letters perhaps…). Do you remember the letter format? If not, don't worry there is a copy of a sample letter for you to review. The beginning and end are in a darker letters/font so you can use the same start and ending. Before you begin to write you should brainstorm some ideas about your mother. There’s some here but they may not apply to your mother or you may have your own ideas. After the brainstorming look at the sentence starters. These can help you to write your letter. Remember starting your sentences with the same beginnings is boring! Perhaps you want to write a rough copy and then you can make sure you have capitals and periods and that your sentences make sense. Or if you know you can do it - write on the paper provided. Last, draw a picture for your mom.

It was Mother's Day

May 6-Wednesday

Today you are going to read a poem about Mother’s Day. Read it once to figure out the words. Then read it aloud to add expression to your reading. After, answer the questions IN COMPLETE SENTENCES.

Comprehension - Money

May 7 -Thursday

Let’s do another expository/non fiction read and understand. This one is about money. It discusses pennies and one dollar bills which we don’t use any longer. Maybe you know someone who still has some of these? Countries like Canada and Australia no longer use these amounts but New Zealand and the United States use one or more of them. Read the article and answer the questions highlight or underline where you found the answers.

May 8

Today you need to get ready for Mother’s Day. Get into the spirit of Mother’s Day by completing the anagram and word search. To help you complete the anagram remember letters that work together (ch, fl etc), ending letters (er, s, es) and that the words may describe your mother or things we may give her for the celebration. There’s also a Mother’s Day card to colour and make for your Mom.

If you still have room in your Covid book - finish it today. Put it somewhere safe for you to read later.
