Google's CS First is a self contained coding curriculum that uses Scratch to help students learn to code. Through the use of videos and self paced learning, students can work on Scratch projects that are embedded directly into the CS First platform.

Purpose and Practice

Purpose

CS First provides an asynchronous coding curriculum for students in grades 4 through 8. With the use of video tutorial, this curriculum allows students to work on projects that involve block-based coding to create in Scratch. With so many different options to create, these projects lend themselves to opportunities for students practice skills already being taught in the classroom (literacy, story telling, etc.)

This coding curriculum uses the district's Google Workspace for Education accounts to provide teacher accountability through the teacher dashboard. Here teachers can assign units, track usage, and view course materials.

Practice (Look Fors)

Look for students engaging in asynchronous lessons that are personalized. Over time, students can create different products that can be shared with the class, teacher, or community.

Teachers can also set up classrooms to track student progress and assign lessons.
