Librarian's Message

A library is the heart of any institute/organization. A library is equivalent to a knowledge powerhouse because of offline & online resources. In the age of information & technology, the library gives e-resources access across the world. It may be paid or free e-resources. The college library has subscribed to N-LIST (National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for scholarly content) and DELNET (Development Library Network). A library is always trying to encourage reading habits among students with various activities such as Book Exhibition, Book Review, Virtual Book Exhibition, Reading Day, Online Quiz Competition, etc. A library has 47000+ books, 20+ print journals & 20+ print newspapers etc. In the online environment, the library has provided various online journals & e-books via N-LIST & DELNET service to all library users. Nowadays, reading habit is a very important part of everyone's life. I remembered that quotation from Roberto Bolano - “Reading is like thinking, like praying, like talking to a friend, like expressing your ideas, like listening to music, like looking at the view, like taking a walk on the beach.” Hence reading is like joy and experience of the world seating anywhere. Therefore, students should read and talk about their ideas with everybody for their development.

Similarly, library organized a library week for students and staff. It was very effective and productive for all library users. A library has been automated with a fully-featured open source Koha – Library Management system. Hence, library users get e-mail notifications for the issue, returns, advance reminders and overdue reminders of the books. It is the best part of open source – Koha software. A library's OPAC (Open Public Access Catalogue) facility is available to all library users for browsing/searching books by title, author, publishers, ISBN/ISSN, subject-wise, etc. One more best thing about OPAC, library users can check the physical book availability status. Presently, the Koha – library management system is installed at one server computer with five computers on a LAN basis. Students can check their OPAC profile with a list of issued/returned books, paid fine, a list of favorite books and more facilities.

A new library website gives a lot of the latest information and content. It gives a search facility to online paid or free electronic resources, important links, New Arrivals books events, QR code service, Books for you, virtual Book Exhibition and various information. I hope all library users get more benefits from the new library website. Best wishes to all library users and come forward to activities.
