1. How do I become a member of the Library?

St. Gonsalo Garcia College's faculty, students, and staff are bonafide members and no other formality is required. As soon as you get your College ID Card, please visit the library once to activate your membership.

2. How do I (an outsider) use the Library?

Faculty, Students and Researchers from Government academic and R&D organizations are allowed to refer to the Library free of charge against introduction letters from their respective organization.

3. How do I search books in Catalogue?

Go to the library home page. There is a search box with the caption “ (OPAC) Search”. Enter a word or words from the title or subject or author of a book you like to search. Press enter. It will list all books matching the words you input.

4. What is “OPAC”?

OPAC stands for Online Public Access Catalogue. This is a database of all books, reference books, CDs, journals etc. available in the library. It enables speedy searching of a particular book, books on a given subject, and/or a book by an author.

5. How do I know what e-books are available/accessible to St. Gonsalo Garcia College Library's Users?

Go to library home page. Click on Services Tab under sub-menu-à Online E-Journals/E-Books. User gets N-List & DELNET link with Guide Video. Users can access online e-books and e-journals through login personal credentials. In case of login details requirement, please contact library staff.

6. How do I borrow books?

Go to the library, pick up the books you require to borrow, carry these books to the Circulation Counter. Show your Library ID Card. The library staff will assist you in getting these books issued to you.

7. How can reverse book in library?

You can reserve or hold the book by using Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC). Currently library offers this facility not only for Issued books but available books also.

8. What are the issue/return (of books) timings of the Library?

7.00 AM to–3.00 PM on all working days.

9. How do I renew / re-issue books I have already borrowed?

Off-line–Bring all books back to the library and get them renewed at the Circulation Counter.

On-line–Go to the library home page at Services under sub-menu click on “OPAC”. System will ask you to input your OPAC Userid and password. After authentication, the user will be directed to the page listing all books borrowed by you. Select the books to be renewed and click the Renewal box for each book.

10. How many times a book can be renewed ?

A book can be renewed 3 times by Students and Staff.

11. How many books can I borrow?

Teaching staff can borrow up to 10 books and Language Department’s teaching staff 15 books, non-teaching staff up to 03 books, UG & PG Students up to 1 book and M.Sc.-I.T. Students borrow up to 8-10 books for semester wise. More details can be at “Library Rules”.

12. Is there a fine for late return (overdue) of books?

Yes, a student are required to pay a late fee, as per the late fee structure, if he/she fails to return the books within the prescribed period of time. Members can see their overdue Rs.1/- charges per day including holidays also. Students also check overdue by logging into the OPAC account.

13. How / Where do I pay Library dues?

Library dues (late fees/cost of lost books etc) can pay in cash at the Library Circulation Counter of the Library.

14. How do I replace a lost book (What am I required to do for a lost book)?

Immediately declare the book as lost on prescribed application form. The latest procurement cost will be intimated to you, to pay for the cost of book.

15. How do I recommend a book for purchase in the Library?

Students and staff can recommend books (including books, reference books and e-books etc) for purchase by the library. The user needs to fill library books recommendation form.

16. What is the normal time period for receiving the suggested book?

Within 6 to 8 weeks from the date of order.

17. Is there any limit on the number of books to be recommended in a year by a user?

No. There is no limit on the number of books to be recommended. However, the purchase of books in a year will be restricted within the allotted budget for each department.

18. What shall I do if I do not get the book on the shelve?

First contact the library staff responsible for shelving of books in that area. If not satisfied, please contact Staff at Circulation Counter or In-charge, Circulation Section.

19. Can I bring my own books in the Library?

Yes. The Library allows few personal books for study inside the library only. Students for referring them along with other library books. All the personal books brought inside the library should be stamped/marked with “PERSONAL BOOKS” before entering the library.

20. Can you help me with visiting other libraries?

The Library will issue you an introductory letter that might help you to visit other Libraries in Mumbai and suburban areas.

21. Can the Library borrow books or documents from other libraries?

Yes, the Library can arrange books and copies of articles on inter-library loan from other libraries.

22. Are E-RESOURCES accessible to all the users?

E-Resources are accessible only to St. Gonsalo Garcia College’s students and staff on the campus and off-campus. However, others can request copies of articles from the E-Resources and the library will download and supply them to the requesting users through proper channels.

23. Whom should I contact If I do not get access to a particular E-RESOURCE or want to learn more about E-Resources?

Please contact Library Assistant Mrs. Delcy Bander. They will provide you assistance/help in using the e-resource.

24. Can I access e-books and e-journals?

Students and staff get access of r-resources via N-LIST & DELNET services. For login details kindly contact Library staff or Librarian.

25. Can I get free open access e-resources?

Yes! Users can get free access e-resources from the "Collection" page under sub-menu "Online Free E-resources."

26. Can I share my credentials with my friends?

If you share your credentials, you will be responsible for any unauthorized use and penalties imposed by the publisher/ provider.

27. What are online e-resources database that can be accessed remotely?

All the databases can be accessed through login N-LIST & DELNET.
