BTEC Level 2 Tech Award in Enterprise (Business Studies)
This course is taught by Ms O’Grady & Mrs Childs
The course covers small businesses and the business environment they operate within. The course is assessed through Controlled Assessments (60%), including researching local small businesses, using them as a case study to plan a small business idea of your own, and an exam on Business Finance and Promotion (40%)
What can I expect?
The BTEC Level 2 Tech Award in Enterprise is for learners who wish to acquire knowledge and skills through vocational contexts by studying the knowledge, behaviours and skills related to researching, planning, pitching and reviewing an enterprise idea as part of their learning. The qualification enables learners to develop their technical skills, such as market research skills, planning, promotional and financial skills using realistic work scenarios, and personal skills (such as monitoring own performance, time management and problem solving), through a practical and skills-based approach to learning and assessment.
What will you do?
You will use a wide variety of resources to research independently how small businesses operate and become successful. You need to be prepared to do lots of independent work and written tasks, including a lot of work in the classroom done under exam conditions (Controlled Assessments). 60% of the course is comprised of this type of work. You will need to be organised, driven, self-motivating and independent in the way you work, plus have a real passion for how businesses and the economy operate.
What does the qualification cover?
The main focus is on the knowledge, understanding and skills required to research, plan, pitch and review an enterprise idea that includes:
• planning an enterprise activity, including market research, planning, carrying out financial transactions, communication and problem solving
• understanding the features and characteristics of enterprises and entrepreneurs, and the internal and external factors that can affect the performance of an enterprise
What can the qualification lead to?
Learners who achieve at Level 2 might consider progression to:
• A Levels as preparation for entry into higher education in a range of subjects
• study of a vocational qualification at Level 3, such as a BTEC National in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship, which prepares learners to enter employment or apprenticeships, or to move on to higher education by studying a degree in the business sector.
