This course will:

• Encourage candidates to be inspired, moved and changed by following a broad, coherent, satisfying and worthwhile course of study

• Encourage candidates to reflect on their own experience of the social world to enhance their ability to play informed roles in different social contexts

• Prepare candidates to make informed decisions about further learning opportunities and career choices

• Help candidates to recognise and develop an understanding of the interrelationships between individuals, groups, institutions and societies

• Analyse critically the nature and sources of information and to base reasoned judgments and arguments on evidence


There are six key areas of study:

1. The Sociological Approach

2. Research Methods

3. Sociology of the Family

4. Sociology of the Education

5. Sociology of Crime and Deviance

6. Social Stratification

Paper 2: The sociology of crime and deviance and social stratification
