Students are set according to ability and will progress at a level appropriate to that ability. All students will take GCSE Mathematics exams at the end of Year 11.
Assessment: There are two tiers of GCSE examination entry:
Higher (Grades 9 to 4)
Foundation (Grades 5 to 1)
Each tier consists of three papers, one non- calculator and two calculator papers.
In order to perform to the best of their ability it is essential that students are equipped properly for mathematics. Normal writing materials are required: pens, pencils, ruler, rubber etc, plus a calculator with scientific functions, a protractor (preferably 360°) and drawing instruments (a pair of compasses).
There is also an opportunity for some students to sit the Edexcel numeracy level 1, 2 or 3 written exam, which is designed to offer the students an opportunity to show Entry Level achievement.
Achievement at Entry Level can be used to assist progression within the National Qualifications framework for example to GCSE or Foundation GNVQ at College.
This course follows the Edexcel specification.
