In a world saturated by media content, it has become increasingly important for students to learn how to not only determine the quality and accuracy of the information they encounter, but also to update and develop more sophisticated methods of gathering and presenting information in a variety of settings.
In the JMA classes, students will learn the processes through which journalists research and present quality information to the public, while avoiding the pitfalls of "fake news." They will also be given instruction in the technical skills required to operate online video editing software. These techniques will help them develop the creative know-how to produce engaging and provocative pieces of video journalism.
We will begin with some basic projects to hone students' video creation skill set, then move on to more developed projects which will incorporate research-based activities to help develop their "journalist's eye."
