The school counselor's role on the campus is:
To support the academic and social/emotional growth of all students
To collaborate with other stakeholders in the students' lives to support all students
To educate all students utilizing guidance lessons on various topics
To promote the professional development of all staff in terms of social/emotional and mental health topics
To work with parents to provide community resources
The school counselor works closely with campus and district leadership to support the overall environment of the campus. The school counselor assists students, teachers, and families by working with students both individually and in small group settings, providing social emotional support, academic support, future planning, and consulting with parents and staff to ensure a successful educational experience.
As the school counselor, I advocate for my role by providing information to all families about my role and how I work diligently with school staff, families, and the community to meet the socioemotional and academic needs of all students.
As the Purl counselor, I advocate for students in academic and social/emotional aspects of their lives. I also work with the administration team to develop programs to support students and families. Some leadership initiatives that I have provided include staff development over trauma-informed care, restorative practices, and teacher essentials presentations. This is done in conjunction with my administrative team, as well as parent informational presentations and sessions for all students in all grade levels. These events have taken place before school, during the school day, and after school.
Some of these events were our 3rd Annual Career Day, Literacy Night, Math Night, Meet the Teacher, Field Day, field trip to Southwestern University with 5th-grade students, attendance incentives for all students, and supporting our campus-wide behavioral expectation system, and more.
