GISD school counselors uniquely support this mission through a balanced school counseling program by:
Understanding every learner’s strengths and unique interests and creating and supporting personalized academic plans with the learner to reach their academic and post-secondary goals.
Providing every learner with a calming presence and nurturing environment where personal social skills can be taught, learners are encouraged, and self-awareness is strengthened.
GISD school counselors recognize that to work toward this goal, we must:
Foster and model healthy relationships
Meet learners where they are
Collaborate and advocate for learner needs within a broad support network
Georgetown ISD school counselors, in collaboration with campus and district administrators, teachers, parents, and community partners, strive to provide a comprehensive counseling program for all students. In Georgetown ISD, we believe every learner shall graduate from our schools with the attributes outlined in our Learner Profile, which include the ability to:
Communicate, collaborate, and apply critical thinking
Create and innovate
Obtain knowledge through inquiry and exploration
Adapt and persevere
Develop self-knowledge and personal responsibility
Build and model respectful relationships
School counselors play a critical role in supporting students to learn, grow, and connect through classroom guidance, small group interactions, and individual student support, in order to strengthen these Learner Profile attributes for academic success in GISD and beyond.
The Georgetown ISD Counseling Services Team empowers students to be socially and emotionally prepared to learn, grow, and connect. Our counseling programs serve the whole child by preparing students with competencies which address interpersonal and intrapersonal skills, personal health and safety, and post-secondary planning. Counselors use a variety of data-gathering practices to determine student needs and implement strategies to address these needs into their school counseling program. GISD school counselors utilize their unique counseling skills to address students’ individual and developmental needs. Additionally, we work closely with families, staff, and the community to support student needs through consultation, collaboration, guidance and advising, and referrals to additional resources as needed.
Comprehensive School Counseling Program Assumptions are statements of student, staff, and program conditions that must exist for the school counseling program to exist.
Comprehensive School Counseling Programs (CSCP) provide for each of the four delivery system components: Guidance & Advising, Individual Planning, Responsive Services, and System Support.
Every student, parent, teacher, community member, etc. has equal access to the CSCP's services.
Parents will be full partners with educators in the education of their children.
Counselors can make their unique contributions to the educational program and the healthy growth & development of students.
School Administrators understand and support the school counseling program priorities and demands & make decisions that reflect those.
All Staff Members accept responsibility for CSCP's goals and objectives
For the 25-26 academic school year, Purl Elementary will prioritize the following two assumptions:
Priority assumption one: Counselors can make their unique contributions to the educational program and the healthy growth & development of students.
Priority assumption two: All Staff Members accept responsibility for CSCP's goals and objectives
Campus administrators and counselors work closely together to highlight possible needs and supports for students during the 2024-2025 school year. Teachers also contribute through student referrals, meeting with counselors about student needs and concerns, and input in the social & emotional design team. Parents provide feedback on student and campus needs, and the PTA actively collaborates with counselors and the principal on ways to support student needs. Additionally, the following data sets were reviewed and used to develop our Tippit Counseling program goals:
Campus Spring 2024-2025 Student Experience Survey
24-25 District School-Based Therapy statistics
Annual Campus Behavioral Threat data
Capturing Kids Hearts Survey
The counselor and campus administrators utilize assessments in the form of surveys to evaluate the needs of the students and develop program goals. Specifically, the student Experience Survey are used to determine both academic as well as social/emotional needs of the students.
The Student Experience Survey provides data that assesses every student in terms of social/emotional and academic concerns. This information is used to help identify students in need as well as providing feedback in terms of school climate. The counselor uses this information to inform guidance lessons and provide targeted interventions.
Oyrk Elementary utilizes a variety of tools to evaluate the effectiveness and progress towards our program goals, such as:
GISD Learner Profile Survey (Spring 2025)
2025-2026 Campus Improvement Plan and goals
2024-2025 school counselor time tracking data
GISD’s Strategic Blueprint with an emphasis on Strategic Priority Area #2
teacher end of year feedback survey and qualitative data (Spring 2025)
This artificact is GISD's strategic direction and our campus CSCP main focus is on strategic priority area #2, student and staff well-being.
In an effort to better support our students as they develop their Learner Profile traits, GISD conducts an annual student survey. This brief survey is provided to students in grades three through five and asks students to reflect on themselves and their experiences which align to our GISD Learner Profile. The survey allows students to respond to a series of questions focused on the SEL domains (i.e. intrapersonal, interpersonal, and cognitive), student engagement, and students' feelings about the school environment.
Capturing Kids Hearts Surveys are given two times a year. One time in the fall semester and one time at the end of the year. The goal is to get a full picture of how the campus is doing in specific areas. The survey is given to campus leadership, Teachers, Students, and Parents.
Purl is a National Capturing Kids Hearts Showcase School for the 24-25 school year. This was our third consecutive year to earn the Capturing Kids Hearts National Showcase School award.
