Band is a time commitment but many students would say they are more academically successful in the Fall while Marching Band is in full swing. Students in the Marching Band are plugged into a number of resources including peer mentoring and tutoring. Many students elect to do homework during their lunch period, or before and after school. All band students have the opportunities to get academic assistance from peers and teachers. The EVPB leadership team will set up tutoring sessions for students within the band - students should check with their section leaders for assistance with this.
All GISD Band Members are responsible for an annual band fee. The purpose of the fees is to help with various expense that are necessary to running a quality band program, but are not covered by the school district. Band fees cover many things ranging from food and uniforms, all the way to instruments and props. More information is released directly to families about fees at the beginning of each marching season.
No student will be denied the opportunity for membership based on their ability to pay fees. Contact Mr. Poindexter with any and all questions on band fees.
See your BoosterHub account for additional information on your fees and what you might owe.
There is no better way to stay connected with your kids than to be a part of something that they absolutely love. Band is the perfect opportunity for parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. to get into the act and support your student and your community.
We have a strong parent organization - the Band Boosters - that can never have too many volunteers. There are positions ranging from leadership as a booster officer to opportunities to make a small donation in the form of a case of water or Gatorade. There is no contribution too great or too small one can make to our kids!
The Boosters are a parent organization that exists to support the Band, provide volunteers for various functions and other logistical needs, and raise funds to help offset some of the costs incurred by the Band. The Boosters operate under a budget separate from the Band, and provide support and funding for things such as trailers and trailer maintenance, Band Banquet, snacks during band camp.
The Band Boosters meet August through May, approximately once a month. The dates and times of these meetings are posted on the EVPB Band Calendar and are open to any parent who has a child participating in band. We would love to have you join us!
