Brant Poindexter is excited to continue at East View as the Director of Bands. Mr. Poindexter joined the East View Patriot Band as the Associate Director of Bands in 2022. Before his time at East View, he was a director at Academy ISD, Marshall County High School (TN), and Ravenwood High School (TN).
Mr. Poindexter grew up in Clarksville, TN and received his Bachelor's in Music Education and Jazz Performance on saxophone from Tennessee Tech University and his Master's in Music Education from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago, IL. In addition to performing in the primary ensembles, he was also a part of a competitive saxophone quartet that performed at state, regional, and national levels.
His professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA), Texas Bandmasters Association (TBA), and the Servant Leadership Association for Music (SLAM). Mr. Poindexter has had the fortune of performing at the Music for All National Concert Festival, the TnMEA state convention as the Hall of Fame performing ensemble, and many Bands of America marching events. Under his direction, his ensembles have received superiors in stage performance and sight-reading.
When not teaching, Mr. Poindexter enjoys spending time with, his wife, their three dogs, traveling, coffee, and exercising. He and his wife Micheala are looking forward to welcoming a son in the fall.
Brigit Johnson is excited to be back at East View as the new Associate Director of bands. After completing her student teaching at East View, Ms. Johnson served as the Assistant Director at Manor New Tech High School where she directed the Titan Regiment Marching Band, Symphonic Band, and Jazz Band.
Originally from Santa Fe, NM, Ms. Johnson graduated from Texas Tech University where she received her bachelor degree in Music Education, and studied Euphonium with Dr. Kevin Wass. At Texas Tech, she performed with the Texas Tech Tuba/Euphonium ensemble, a Tuba/Euphonium quartet under the name of Matador Brass, and with all three of the concert ensembles as a principal chair. Ms. Johnson also performed with the Goin’ Band from Raiderland for all four years of college, serving as baritone section leader for one year, and then as a drum major for two years.
Ms. Johnson’s drum corps experience includes being a contracted member of the Crossmen for the 2020 season, as well as performing with the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps on baritone and trombone for the 2023 season, where they were awarded the silver medal in the DCI World Championship Finals.
Outside of band, Ms. Johnson loves to hike, swing dance, draw, play video games, read, and write. If you catch her with headphones on, she’s probably listening to the Skyrim soundtrack.
Andrew Blezinger serves as Associate Director of Bands and Percussion Director for East View High School. He is beginning his 9th year as a percussion instructor/director and is very excited to be joining the GISD team!
Mr. Blezinger grew up in Sulphur Springs, Texas and received his Bachelor's in Music Education from Texas A&M University at Commerce. While in school he performed with the 'Pride" Marching Band, The "Panimation" Steele Drum Band, Wind Symphony, and the Brazilian and chamber percussion ensembles. Outside of school, Mr. Blezinger was a front ensemble member of Southwind Drum & Bugle Corps (2004-2006) and Bluecoats Drum & Bugle Corps (2007-2008). As a teacher, Mr. Blezinger served as the assistant percussion instructor for Sherman High School, where the band made the UIL State Marching Band finals in 2011, and has served as the director of percussion at Little Elm, Ranchview and Arlington High School since 2012. While teaching, he has been able to perform as a church percussionist, a member of the Metropolitan Winds, and member of the Nebulas cast (an electronic-percussion-theater group in Wichita Falls during the summer of 2012) as well as adjudicate in the DFW area.
While not teaching or performing, Mr. Blezinger enjoys riding his bike and spending time with his wife and puppy as they find great places to hike, enjoy outdoor concerts and festivals, and cheering on his favorite sports teams (GO RANGERS, COWBOYS, STARS and SPURS!!).
Mr. Blezinger serves on the Health and Wellness Committee for the Percussive Arts Society and holds affiliations with TMEA, PAS, and Salyers Percussion.
