The course was great as it provided a vast knowledge of media, cultures, and languages. In particular, I learned that old media types are not as reliable as new media types, furthermore, I learned that the internet is having a strong impact on politics and culture across the world. On the other hand, the internet may be exploited to share biased information to benefit the senders. Also, I was fascinated that the assignments had educational tutorials and documentaries linked to them, some of which showed how online communication may cause suffering, including cyberbullying.
The course aids the focus of my certificate by exploring various issues. For example, I was helped by the course to understand the essence of cultural diversity and how communication through social media (Instagram) can be quick and effective. The course shows how media information is an innovative platform that can be used to show the reality of unrest. Also, it builds on the research by showing how improving communication, strengthening networks, and investing in innovative approaches such as Twitter and Instagram can lead to active dialogue among a diverse population which gives a better understanding of why such content was fought by the management of Instagram, etc, that because they know how effective it could be.
The course ignited my thoughts on how powerful the media is and the readings proved useful in answering my CMAP research question. Online communication may lead to a call for freedom of expression, as was the case with the Palestinians denouncing Instagram censorship.
Most if not all the works required for this class were designed to be worked on in pairs, including the final paper. so all students got to choose the person they would like to work with for the rest of the semester. This was a very interesting and nice experience since both me and my partner got to build on each other's knowledge.
