Students who request F-1 support on their application will receive an F-1 portal email invitation from the Office of Global Services (OGS) within one week after enrolling. F-1 students must obtain their Form I-20 from OGS before they can apply for the F-1 visa from the U.S. embassy.
Summer College and College Prep students should request their I-20 from OGS by May 1, but earlier action is strongly encouraged. F-1 visa advising for full time students is provided by email via newinternational@georgetown.edu.

Georgetown provides F-1 nonimmigrant status support for full time enrollment in non-degree Summer School. F-1 status requires six credits in person per session.
Students request F-1 support on their Summer School application. Within one week after admission, students receive an email invitation from the Office of Global Services (OGS) to request their Form I-20, Certificate of Eligibility for F-1 status.
Students need their Form I-20 from OGS before they can apply for an F-1 visa from the U.S. embassy or consulate:
Citizens of Canada and Bermuda need only their Form I-20 to enter the U.S.
All other nationalities need both their Form I-20 and F-1 visa to enter the U.S.
OGS will only communicate via students’ NetID@georgetown.edu email address. Students must access and monitor their Georgetown email account immediately after enrolling.
OGS begins F-1 visa support on the first business day in February. Students must request their Form I-20 from OGS as early as possible to allow time for obtaining their F-1 visa. Students who request their Form I-20 less than two months before classes begin may not have time to obtain an F-1 visa.
Email highschool@georgetown.edu if you need assistance registering for a full time F-1 course load (six credits in person per session).
F-1 visa questions regarding full time study? Email the Office of Global Services (OGS) via newinternational@georgetown.edu.

International students participating in a credit program will need to be full-time students enrolled in at least six credits for the duration of the session in order to study at Georgetown in F-1 student status.
Students will work with the International Programs Advisor on the I-20 process.
Students should allow at least 8 weeks for the processing of immigration documents.
All admitted international students studying in F-1 status must attend a mandatory immigration orientation session upon arriving at Georgetown. The date and time of this session will be announced via email.
