E-Safety Tips

Tips for Spotting False or Misinformation

  • How do you determine what information is accurate, and what is not?

The best way to do this is to think critically about what you read, see, or hear.

  • Check the URL/website address:

Does the website have a strange website address or url?

False information articles may use domain names that look like a trusted news or media site, but with minor spelling changes.

Take a closer look:

Check the source of the story – is it a credible/reliable source? If you are unfamiliar with the site, look in the about section or find out more information about the author.

  • Look beyond the headline:

Check the entire article. Many false news stories use sensationalist or shocking headlines to grab attention, but a headline or social media post does not give the full story. Often the headlines used for false information are in all caps and use exclamation points.

COVID 19

A reminder that for students opting for Face-to-Face learning, they must follow the safety rules to keep the entire school community safe.

This includes:

  • Wearing a disposable mask that covers the nose and mouth all day

  • Staying 2 meters away from others, including in the corridor and staircase

  • Staying only within their designated ‘bubble’ (area of the school)

  • Not sharing equipment with others

  • No touching of other students

  • Students who are 12 years old and above must have submitted a negative COVID test before coming to school. This must be a PCR test and not a laser test.

Coronavirus Transmission

Dear Parents,

At present, health authorities recognize three vehicles of coronavirus transmission:

1) The small droplets from speaking or coughing, which can end up in the eyes, mouth or nose of people standing nearby.

2) Contaminated surfaces (fomites), although the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicates that this is the likely way to catch the virus.

3) Finally, there is transmission by aerosols – the inhalation of invisible infectious particles exhaled by an infected person that, once leaving the mouth, behave in a similar way to smoke. Without ventilation, aerosols remain suspended in the air and become increasingly dense as time passes.

Breathing, speaking and shouting

At the beginning of the pandemic, it was believed that the large droplets we expel when we cough or sneeze were the main vehicle of transmission. But recent studies show that shouting and singing in indoor, poorly ventilated spaces over a prolonged period of time also increases the risk of contagion. This is because speaking in a loud voice releases 50 times more virus-laden particles than when we don’t speak at all. These aerosols, if not diffused through ventilation, become increasingly concentrated, which increases the risk of infection. Scientists have shown that these particles – which we also release into the atmosphere when simply breathing and which can escape from improperly worn face masks – can infect people, depending on the length of time and the nature of the interaction.

Even though the WSR is equipped with sophisticated Fresh Air Handling Unit ( FAHU ) it is advised and recommended to keep at least one window open for ventilation. The AC temperature can be set as per your requirement

Important reminders

1) Wear proper PPE while you are with someone

2) Maintain safe distance

3) Don’t share materials

4) Avoid gatherings or meeting people – use telephones, online meeting applications if absolutely necessary

5) Keep your area clean and tidy

6) Sanitise and wash your hands with soap for at least for 30 seconds

7) WFH if you are unwell or any of your family members is / has been showing C 19 symptoms

8) Get yourself regularly tested

9) Do some exercise

10) Eat healthy food preferable home cooked

11) Follow the law of the land and authority regulations

Behaviour Compliance

Students who are found not wearing the mask properly in school will be given a verbal warning in the first instance, followed by a warning letter and then a meeting with parents. If they still do not comply with the protocol, they will be asked to do remote learning.
