Week Thirty - May 16th, 2025
Dear Parents,
I am delighted to let you know that Ms Louise, our Primary School Librarian, has won the UAE-wide award for Most Innovative Librarian. We know how popular our library is, which reflects how Ms Louise and her team bring it to life. Well done, Ms Louise!
It was a pleasure to introduce the inaugural GIS Model United Nations conference last Friday. I am so impressed that our students, supported by Ms Helen M, Ms Rena and Ms Michaela, organised such an amazing event during their busy school lives. The MUN offers countless opportunities to enhance presentation and communication skills, and to give students confidence to take risks within a safe and supportive environment. Thank you in particular to the Secretary Generals, Elisavet P T and Zaineb Z (both Grade 10).
On Monday, we enjoyed a Parent Engagement event, and were honoured to welcome GEMS Chairman and Founder, Mr Sunny Varkey, CEO Mr Dino Varkey, and Chief Education Officer Ms Lisa Crausby OBE, along with esteemed members of our corporate team. My huge thanks to the many parents present who asked insightful, balanced and incisive questions. We were able to celebrate considerable achievements, and also share plans for improvement. The letter and video from the event below:
Today our Grade 9 – 12 Tareeqi students visited the Dubai College of Tourism to learn all about their Post-18 college courses, with Ms. Hannah, Ms. Jordan, Mr. Joe & their parents. The students were excited to learn about how they could study Culinary Arts, Hospitality, Events Management or Tourism. They met with current students and enjoyed a tour of the campus.
Finally, during a Grade 7 assembly this week, I was privileged to hear Fortune S (G7E) talking in front of the whole year group, on the subject of respect and equality. This was one of the most courageous presentations I have seen at GIS. Fortune has been at the school only one month and spoke with confidence and conviction. The support from the year group was commendable.
Kind regards and have a good weekend,
Our ice lollie sale this week was a success. Thank you to everyone who supported. All proceeds will go towards our Support Staff Appreciation Lunch.
The Country Ambassador program was launched in 2021 with the intention of helping connect families with their motherland tongue and country. Small community sub groups have been created to help integrate new families from these specific countries as they enroll at GIS. We encourage you to join your country group via the QR code.
Although as a whole, we are one big family, it’s always nice to connect with those from our country. Ultimately, the goal is to have at least ONE representative for each country.
If you see that your country or ambassador is not listed and you are interested in representing your country, please reach out to us via email at gispa@gemsisak.com
Our Iranian, Egyptian and Latino parents have already started to welcome returning and new parents on a nice breakfast gathering.
We encourage all GIS communities to get together and keep us posted.
GIS house color t-shirts and swim wear will be available to purchase from threads.
