Week Thirty - May 16th, 2025
Grades 6-12
Ensuring Additional Support for All Students.
This academic year we are launching a new support initiative for all students at GIS. Academic Priority is a system of academic support for students that they can access in addition to their regular classes across all departments.
Each department holds a session once a week. The exact timings and locations for each department can be found on the Academic Priority Schedule posted below. This is also available on ManageBac.
Academic priority is staffed by teachers from the departments, ensuring that students have access to the teachers they need. Any student who needs additional support, has a question or just wants to discuss a particular topic is welcome at Academic Priority. There are no fixyed topics for a session. The teacher will provide support based on the individual student’s needs on a particular day.
In addition, teachers make themselves available to any student who needs support whenever possible. We are looking forward to the impact Academic Priority will have on our students progress and attainment.
Please see below for the Term 3 schedule.

Grade 9 Science students recently had a hands-on opportunity to explore the structure and function of the eye by dissecting a sheep's eye. This engaging activity allowed students to apply their knowledge of how light enters the eye in a real-world context. With safety goggles on and scalpels in hand, students carefully identified key parts of the eye such as the cornea, lens, retina, and optic nerve. The dissection sparked curiosity and excitement, making the learning experience both memorable and meaningful.
Grade 9
This week, our Grade 9 science students brought chemistry to life by using Moly-Mod molecular model kits to construct and present covalent compounds. Through this hands-on activity, students deepened their understanding of molecular structures, bonding, and the properties of covalent substances. It was a fun and engaging way to visualize how atoms share electrons and form molecules—making abstract concepts more concrete and memorable!
Grade 6
Our Grade 6 students turned into young physicists this week as they investigated the factors affecting air resistance using paper helicopters. Through hands-on experimentation, they explored how changes in wing size impact the time at which the helicopters fall. The activity sparked curiosity, encouraged teamwork, and brought scientific concepts to life in a fun and interactive way!
Grade 8-11
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to the Sweet Treats bake sale! Our Emirati students baked 200 cupcakes for this charity drive. Their generosity, time, and effort helped make the event a sweet success. Whether people baked, bought, or spread the word, their support meant the world.
A special thanks to Mr. Mahdi for not only baking but also graciously allowing us to use the food lab – his help was instrumental in making this event possible.
Together, we sold all the cupcakes and raised AED 1080, which has been handed over to the finance team for charity. This has shown what a caring and compassionate community can do. Thank you again for being part of something meaningful.
Grade 8
Our students had to prepare a criterion D based on this prompt: Your school would like to display a piece of art destined for the school museum gallery. The supervisor has tasked you with crafting a succinct yet comprehensive description and explanation of your artwork to be featured on a plaque, or "cartel," positioned beneath it. This will serve to enlighten visitors about the piece's significance and meaning
