Week Twenty Eight - May 2nd, 2025
Dear Parents,
I have been pleased with so many students this week, for their application in lessons and their successes outside the classroom.
Our Grade 5 students deserve congratulations for the PYPx, which is not only an exhibition, around a global sustainable development goal, but also an opportunity for students to present eloquently and clearly. It is a highlight for an IB school and the culmination of eight weeks’ preparation. Well done to our students and my thanks to Ms Shannon, Ms Rebekah and all Grade 5 teachers and teaching assistants for the guidance and preparation.
Our dance squad enjoyed huge success in the Middle East Championships, with a third place in ‘Street Crew’, second place in ‘Street Duo’ (Chewon P and Adilya M) and first places for Selda G in ‘Commercial Solo’ and for Selda G and Adilya M in ‘Commercial Duo’. Well done to all and my thanks to Ms Amy for really putting dance on the map at GIS. I am a strong supporter of the teamwork, fun and exercise that such an activity and artform can bring.
I also enjoyed meeting some of our super swimmers this week. They won the Annual Falcon Swimming Competition! The squad beat Dubai American Academy, American School of Dubai and the American Community School Abu Dhabi, to take first place with a score of 2676 points. The dedication of these students is to be admired and I was delighted to offer commendations in my office to those who were top for their age groups: Olivia L S (G3), Varvara S (G4) and Nikolai M (G8). Well done to all involved – you have made us proud! And my thanks to Ms Hadeel and all coaches.
Our students also won first and second place in a national coding, machine learning, programming and AI competition, known as CODEAVOUR 6.0. Participants had the opportunity to develop innovative projects, enhance their problem solving skills, and showcase creativity and critical thinking. They will now travel to Qatar for the international championship! Well done to both teams: Anannya R, Selda G, Sanchita B and Bhadra A gained first place; Samrithi S, Prajna M and Anum N achieved second place. My thanks to Ms Sheeba and all staff involved for the organisation and guidance.
Finally, the academic strength of the school, enhanced by new initiatives which we would be happy to share with all parents, was recognised by a visit this week from the European University of Cyprus. Mr Stefanos from EUC has reinforced the partnership, which brings a unique pre-med programme to GIS and scholarships of up to 50%.
Kind regards and have a good weekend,
Family First

The Country Ambassador program was launched in 2021 with the intention of helping connect families with their motherland tongue and country. Small community sub groups have been created to help integrate new families from these specific countries as they enroll at GIS. We encourage you to join your country group via the QR code.
Although as a whole, we are one big family, it’s always nice to connect with those from our country. Ultimately, the goal is to have at least ONE representative for each country.
If you see that your country or ambassador is not listed and you are interested in representing your country, please reach out to us via email at gispa@gemsisak.com
Our Iranian, Egyptian and Latino parents have already started to welcome returning and new parents on a nice breakfast gathering.
We encourage all GIS communities to get together and keep us posted.
GIS house color t-shirts and swim wear will be available to purchase from threads.

Kind reminder to ensure students accounts have enough credit loaded so they do not face issues purchasing food.
