Week Twenty Eight - May 2nd, 2025
Dear Primary Parents,
What an incredible week it has been at GIS! We were thrilled to witness the celebration of our Grade 5 students’ learning journeys through this year’s PYP Exhibition (PYPx). The PYPx is a significant milestone in the Primary Years Programme where students engage in in-depth inquiry, collaboration, and meaningful action around topics they are passionate about. A huge congratulations to all of our Grade 5 students, their teachers, and our dedicated PYPx mentors for the creativity, confidence, and curiosity on display!
📸 Be sure to check out Peek Into Learning to see photos and learn more about the PYPx experience.
💡 Reminders & Updates
📅 Looking ahead, we're excited about our upcoming Student-Led Conferences (SLCs) on May 15. Please remember:
This is not a regular school day for students.
Students and parents attend the conference together.
You’ll sign up for a homeroom slot, and then you’re welcome to drop in to the single-subject classes.
* There will be no SLCs from 1–3pm across the school.
📧 An email with the sign-up link will be sent to you by May 5th.
During SLCs, we will also transform the front reception into a space where you and your family can have a picnic, Slices Cafe will be open. This #FamilyFirst initiative is a nice way to pass the time between conferences. Bring a picnic blanket, some snacks, and your family spirit! 💙
🎶 PYP Concerts Next Week – Grades 1, 3, and 4
We can’t wait to see you in the MPH to celebrate your child’s musical talents! Please see the concert time for your student's grade and class on the poster below.

Student Spotlight
Kindah Ashour 5D and Cady Ashour 3D participated in the national competition under the Egyptian Rhythmic Gymnastic Federation and they achieved good results. Kindah won third place in ball and hoop and Cady achieved second place in rope. We are proud of their achievements.
Parents have all received a notification to sign up for the Toddle platform. This is an exciting enhancement to our parent communication, and this year you will receive weekly updates through the Toddle platform.
This IB affiliated platform will offer opportunities for parents to remain up to date with their child's academic progress.
The below class pages will host resources for parents and will no longer have weekly messages. All information will be sent through Toddle, so please inform your class teacher if you have any trouble registering.
Parents are urged to schedule medical, dental and other appointments after school hours or during vacations.
A request must be submitted before a child can be released once in school for health and safety and reasons.
Filling in the form 24hrs in advance is expected where possible.
At the time of collection, please come to the Primary Reception at Gate 4.
Any absence (whether it is planned or unplanned ) must be communicated via email to the homeroom teacher and gis_primaryleaverequest@gemsedu.com by 8:00 AM. STS/bus users must also copy the STS manger on the email. vijesh.kumar@sts-group.com
A planned or extended absence beyond 2 days requires the completion of an absence request form
Absence for more than 3 days requires prior approval if planned or a doctors clearance for illness related leave (in some cases a medical certificate is requested )
