Week Twenty-Eight - April 14th, 2023
Dear Parents,
I hope that you are well.
The highlight of the week has surely been our GIS Iftar! What an evening it was. We enjoyed beautiful introductions, recitals and guidance on the meanings of Iftar and Ramadan from our students, along with music from parents Mr. William and Mrs. Sherine. Alwy B (Grade 8) even organized football matches for the evening, so there really was something for everyone. The food was delicious and I thank our parents for pointing out some delectable choices for me! I am incredibly grateful to Heads of Islamic Ms Nomah, Ms Rasha and their departments, our GISPA colleagues Ms Suad and Ms Wessam, and Ms Sarah, our Assistant Head of Primary School.
Our students have impressed me this week with their attitude towards the return to school after the break. They are energized and have been dynamic in so many lessons that I have popped into. Those who are fasting have handled this with determination and inner strength and their friends have been supportive. Well done to all.
Our school, with its culture of ‘Respect, Trust and Ambition’, and with the pathways which we offer within the IB, continues to garner a lot of interest. On Thursday, I gave another webinar for prospective parents and guests, on ‘Is the IB right for my child?’. This was well attended and questions centered around the use of AI, how the IB is designed for critical thinking and creativity, how rigorous the IB journey is and what we do to support. GIS is proving very popular, so I do hope that our current families have re-enrolled.
As last time, a note for the diary: while we cannot provide the full year’s academic dates and holidays for 2023-24 until our submission is approved, we can let you know that the first term of the new academic year will begin on 28th August for all new students and all Grade 6 students, to aid transition. All other students will commence on 29th August. We shall send the full calendar to you as soon as possible.
Kind regards, have a good weekend, and I wish you a sincere Ramadan Mubarak.
