Week Twenty-Eight - April 14th, 2023
We are all thrilled to be back at school this week and very proud of our students for adapting so well to the changes in the timetable during the holy month of Ramadan.
In primary, we have introduced some AAC apps onto all of the school ipads. AAC stands for 'Alternative and Augmentative Communication'. It is vital that students who might experience difficulties communicating verbally, have alternative ways to have their needs met and to express themselves. AAC doesn’t always have to be high tech, it can be simply in the form of visual images on a printed out communication board however, we like to try all of the resources available and our students respond very positively to visual support on the ipad. This not only promotes development in communication skills, but can also support transitioning and independent self management skills!
In secondary, we have started to recruit for the new Student Inclusion Committee. We are very encouraged to have had over 15 applications already from really strong candidates. Interviews will take place over the next week and we are very excited to get started with the important work of the Student Inclusion Committee!
