Week Eighteen - January 31st, 2025
Dear Parents,
GIS is the only UAE school represented in the Gulf Athletics and Activities Conference. We are very proud of our Jaguar athletes, from Grade 9-12, who showcased their talent last week in the basketball and football events in Qatar and gained some great results (girls’ football 2nd; boys’ football 3rd; boys’ basketball 3rd; girls’ basketball 5th). A total of 47 students and 6 dedicated coaches represented GIS and we congratulate all the teams. Mr Jason says that the tournament was especially meaningful for our seven incredible seniors, as it marked the culmination of their athletic careers at GIS. We thank them for their dedication and attitude both on and off the pitch.
My thanks to Mr Jason for enabling GIS entry into this exclusive group of schools.
We are also celebrating another group of students, who managed an extraordinary feat in the FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL) regional competition. Our talented team, known as Metal Mech, has won First Place in Robot Performance and emerged as the Runner-Up in Core Values. The FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL) is a global robotics program that introduces children to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) through engaging, hands-on learning experiences. Participants gain real-world problem-solving skills by working collaboratively on themed challenges. In the 2024-2025 season, the SUBMERGED℠ challenge invites teams to use creative thinking and LEGO® technology to explore the ocean's layers, bringing their discoveries to the surface. The teachers and teaching assistants who supported the students before and during the event deserve our thanks: Ms Sheeba, Mr Sujay, Ms Anaswer, Mr Manoj, and Ms Preethi. The talented team, known as Metal Mech, are: Anannya R (G8), Selda G (G8), Bhadra R (G10), Sanchita B (G7), Andy F (G8), Jinu K (G8), Parin R (G8) and Prajna M (G10). With this achievement, METAL MECH has now qualified for the national-level competition on February 9, 2025.
My thanks also this week to Ms Melissa and the arts team in the Primary School, for the wonderful Grade 4 and 5 drama productions. It was a pleasure to see such confident and natural performances.
I wish you a good weekend and for all our Chinese families, I wish you Xīnnián kuàilè from the 29th January!
Kind regards,

Here are some snapshots from the amazing picnic day that was held last week in Al Barsh Pond Park, it was such a relaxing warm gathering.
A huge thank you to everyone who has joined.
The Country Ambassador program was launched in 2021 with the intention of helping connect families with their motherland tongue and country. Small community sub groups have been created to help integrate new families from these specific countries as they enroll at GIS. We encourage you to join your country group via the QR code.
Although as a whole, we are one big family, it’s always nice to connect with those from our country. Ultimately, the goal is to have at least ONE representative for each country.
If you see that your country or ambassador is not listed and you are interested in representing your country, please reach out to us via email at gispa@gemsisak.com
Our Iranian, Egyptian and Latino parents have already started to welcome returning and new parents on a nice breakfast gathering.
We encourage all GIS communities to get together and keep us posted.
From 20th February GIS house color t-shirts and swim wear will be available to purchase from threads.
