Week Fifteen - January 10th, 2024
Dear Parents,
It has been delightful to welcome our students back to school. Some were a little jaded on Monday, after travelling perhaps, but are now fully back into the rhythm! We welcome all our new families and sincerely hope that you find the GIS community to be warm, friendly and kind.
I would like to mention our school culture. Nothing is more important than our culture and I was pleased this week to see two acts of random kindness and care for others. Firstly, three boys in our secondary school handed in 500 AED to Ms Mary Ann. They had found the money lying in a corridor and immediately took this to the secondary reception. Whilst not a surprise, given how 99% of our students treat each other, it was still refreshing to see that the boys were so keen to see that the money was returned to its owner.
Secondly, I saw one of our primary school Grade 3 students pick up some dirty litter, that he had not dropped himself. He then walked (out of his way) to a rubbish bin and threw it away, before leaving the school at the end of the day on Wednesday. This small act goes a long way and certainly models the type of behaviour we expect from all our students. Therefore, I was pleased to present Ali K (G3F), with a Head of School’s commendation in front of his classmates.
I would like to remind parents that, in agreement with our neighboring school Wellington (known as WEK), you may use the WEK car park after 7.40am each day. This would be a good way to save time in the morning. You have also received a letter outlining drop-off and pick-up tips from Mr Ranjit. We have also paid for extra security and traffic personnel to help the flow.
It was a pleasure to meet Grade 2 parents and of course to sample some wonderful cuisine, at the latest ‘Pot Luck’ gathering on Friday. If you need to find me on a Friday morning, I’ll be in the canteen for at least 30 minutes being treated to food from around the world!
Finally, our musicians are excelling again and have re-started their morning performances. My thanks to Alessandro C (G11) for his wonderful renditions on Friday.
I hope that you enjoyed a refreshing break and wish you a good weekend,

The Country Ambassador program was launched in 2021 with the intention of helping connect families with their motherland tongue and country. Small community sub groups have been created to help integrate new families from these specific countries as they enroll at GIS. We encourage you to join your country group via the QR code.
Although as a whole, we are one big family, it’s always nice to connect with those from our country. Ultimately, the goal is to have at least ONE representative for each country.
If you see that your country or ambassador is not listed and you are interested in representing your country, please reach out to us via email at gispa@gemsisak.com
Our Iranian, Egyptian and Latino parents have already started to welcome returning and new parents on a nice breakfast gathering.
We encourage all GIS communities to get together and keep us posted.

Kind reminder to ensure students accounts have enough credit loaded so they do not face issues purchasing food.
