Week Fifteen - January 10th, 2024
Grades 6-12
Ensuring Additional Support for All Students.
This academic year we are launching a new support initiative for all students at GIS. Academic Priority is a system of academic support for students that they can access in addition to their regular classes across all departments.
Each department holds a session once a week. The exact timings and locations for each department can be found on the Academic Priority Schedule posted below. This is also available on ManageBac.
Academic priority is staffed by teachers from the departments, ensuring that students have access to the teachers they need. Any student who needs additional support, has a question or just wants to discuss a particular topic is welcome at Academic Priority. There are no fixyed topics for a session. The teacher will provide support based on the individual student’s needs on a particular day.
In addition, teachers make themselves available to any student who needs support whenever possible. We are looking forward to the impact Academic Priority will have on our students progress and attainment.
Please see below for the Term 2 schedule.
Grade 11
Students have completed their 2nd animation over the break and have explored both the traditional and digital methods of animating to communicate their narrative. With the traditional method of using a light table and pencil/paper, the students were able to recreate their works using a digital method through animation software (adobe animate, flipaclip, toonsquid, etc).
Take a look at the two and see which you enjoy the most!

Grade 8
Towards the end of last term, Grade 8 students embarked on an exciting journey as medical researchers and presenters! Their objective: to explore the fascinating world of blood diseases through in-depth research and create engaging 3–5 minute video presentations.
From common conditions like Iron Deficiency Anemia to more complex diseases such as Leukemia, students were tasked with understanding how these diseases develop, their impact on the body, and the challenges faced in diagnosis and treatment. Guided by specific questions and a comprehensive checklist, they created informative and visually captivating presentations that showcased their newfound knowledge.
This project was not just about producing a video—it was an immersive learning experience that combined science, research, and communication skills. By stepping into the role of a medical expert, students honed their ability to explain complex information clearly and confidently. Their creativity, curiosity, and dedication were evident in the insightful and professional-quality presentations shared with their peers.
I am proud of the outstanding effort and enthusiasm shown by our young medical researchers. Below are a few exceptional examples of their video presentations:
Take a moment to view these impressive works and celebrate the amazing talent of our Grade 8 students. Well done, Grade 8!
