Week Twelve - November 22nd, 2024
Dear Parents,
I hope that you are well.ย
Thank you again to our new families who completed the recent GEMS survey about your experience as newcomers to our school. I am so pleased that this has resulted in the most positive outcome ever for GIS, with regard to โnet promoter scoreโ (how much you would recommend the school to others). I would like to thank all those involved in helping our new families, from staff and students, through to our parental community. We shall still look at areas for improvement, and avoid any complacency, whilst enhancing our strengths also.ย
On the subject of improvement, I am hearing positive feedback on the new measures brought in this year, from student surveys on classroom climate, to โAcademic Priorityโ sessions each Monday afternoon after school, along with increased learning walks from middle and senior leaders. Well done to all and it is so pleasing to have this focus on teaching and learning.ย
This week we had a compliance visit from KHDA. This was not about education, or the classroom. It was an annual check that our policies were in place and correct, and that we follow Ministry of Education instructions and recommendations. I am grateful to Ms Tasnim, our Government Relations Executive, for her hard work in ensuring that this passed successfully.
Other good news this week! I am reliably informed that our swimming pool has now been fully repaired and water tested. This was a huge job of excavation and investigation, and I would like to thank Mr Arun, Mr John and their teams. The pool will be back in action by Monday and I would like to thank all students and parents for your patience.ย
I am grateful to our Grade 5 teachers and leaders and parents for the wonderful โPot Luckโ gathering on Friday. This was the first time for the Primary School, following the success of these events in Secondary. Many thanks for the wonderful food and community spirit!
Finally, I would like to celebrate the performances of our wonderful sportsmen and sportswomen who participated in the inaugural Gulf Athletic Association Conference (GAAC). Here is the summary from Mr Jason:
โThis weekend, our Jaguars made history by competing in the first-ever GAAC Varsity Volleyball Tournament! Both teams displayed incredible skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship, making our school proud! ๐๐
๐ Girls Team: Finished 4-1, securing an impressive 2nd place out of 8 schools! ๐ช
๐ Boys Team: Battled hard and finished in 5th place with a 2-2 record! ๐ฅ
๐ A special shout-out to:
๐ Isabella, Karsianny, and Mirko for being selected to the All-Tournament Teams! ๐๐
๐ The entire Girls Volleyball Team for receiving the Sportsmanship Award, chosen by the players of the other 7 schools. Your grace on and off the court truly sets the standard!
----------------
This weekend, our Secondary Boys and Girls Swim Teams made history by competing in the first-ever GAAC Swim Meet all the way in Kuwait! ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ The journey was worth it, as our Jaguars made waves, finishing in 3rd Place Overall! ๐โ
โจ Girls Team Highlights:
๐ฅ 3 Gold Medals
๐ฅ 6 Silver Medals
๐ฅ 3 Bronze Medals
โจ Boys Team Highlights:
๐ฅ 2 Gold Medals
๐ฅ 3 Silver Medals
My thanks to Mr Jason himself, and also accompanying coaches, Mr Chris, Ms Amy, Mr Shunske and Ms Hadeel. Well done all โ it is a privilege to be the only school in the UAE invited to be part of this exclusive competition!
Kind regards and have a good weekend,
This morning, we kicked off the day with an energizing free Zumba class for the women in our community! Our participants had a fantastic time dancing to lively music, getting a great workout, and connecting with one another. It was the perfect way to begin the day!
ย The Country Ambassador program was launched in 2021 with the intention of helping connect families with their motherland tongue and country. Small community sub groups have been created to help integrate new families from these specific countries as they enroll at GIS. We encourage you to join your country group via the QR code.
Although as a whole, we are one big family, itโs always nice to connect with those from our country. Ultimately, the goal is to have at least ONE representative for each country.ย
If you see that your country or ambassador is not listed and you are interested in representing your country, please reach out to us via email at gispa@gemsisak.com
Our Iranian, Egyptian and Latino parents have already started to welcome returning and new parents on a nice breakfast gathering.
We encourage all GIS communities to get together and keep us posted.
