Week Twelve - November 22nd, 2024
Grades 6-12
Ensuring Additional Support for All Students.
This academic year we are launching a new support initiative for all students at GIS. Academic Priority is a system of academic support for students that they can access in addition to their regular classes across all departments.
Each department holds a session once a week. The exact timings and locations for each department can be found on the Academic Priority Schedule posted below. This is also available on ManageBac.
Academic priority is staffed by teachers from the departments, ensuring that students have access to the teachers they need. Any student who needs additional support, has a question or just wants to discuss a particular topic is welcome at Academic Priority. There are no fixed topics for a session. The teacher will provide support based on the individual student’s needs on a particular day.
In addition, teachers make themselves available to any student who needs support whenever possible. We are looking forward to the impact Academic Priority will have on our students progress and attainment.
All Grades
This year, World Kindness Day was brought to life in a truly inspiring way, thanks to the creativity and leadership of our students. As part of our commitment to fostering kindness and empathy within our school community, students took the lead in organizing activities that not only highlighted the importance of kindness but also encouraged everyone to participate.
It has been heartwarming to see so many students stop by, read the messages of positivity, and contribute their own thoughts to the conversation. Their willingness to share kind words and actions has made this day a powerful reminder of how small gestures can create a ripple effect of goodwill. This initiative has not only showcased the leadership of our young people but also reinforced the values we hold dear in our school—values that will continue to guide us in all that we do.
The following display was designed and developed by 2 talented Grade 11 students: Ayla Fardinfard and Emma Soobramoney. A range of seniors students supported by encouraging oour students to contribute the wall.
Grade 6
Magnificent Monologues by 6C!
Bravo 6C! Ms Irasa was so impressed by your amazing performances today. You put in so much effort to create costumes and props that suited you characters.
Grade 11
The Grade 11 students enjoyed a much more energetic Advisory lesson than usual on Tuesday, with the entire grade heading out to the sports field and sports hall for a lively session of bench ball and football, as part of the Dubai 30 x 30 Fitness challenge.
It was fantastic to see everyone fully involved and having fun, especially after such an intense term as they transition into the Diploma Programme and Career-related Programmes.
The students embraced the chance to let off some steam, showing great team spirit and energy.
A big thank you to Mr. Stephen and Mr. Tom for organizing and leading the games, and to Mr. Conor, who sported his formal work attire while stepping in as goalkeeper for his Homeroom!
