Welcome to
Grade 4
Welcome to Grade 4 at Kamloops School of the Arts. We are so excited to partner with you to support your child’s growth, learning, and independence. We are looking forward to getting to know all our students and families. This year, our classroom will benefit from a job-share teaching partnership. This team approach brings double the creativity, energy, and care into our room! To provide a stable and consistent routine for the children, our days are split as follows:
Monday through Thursday: Mrs. Piroddi
Fridays: Ms. Murray
We will work closely as a team to plan lessons, share observations, and align our classroom expectations and routines. Open communication with you is incredibly important to both of us. Please feel free to reach out to either of us at any time:
Mrs. Piroddi’s Email: spiroddi@sd73.bc.ca
Ms. Murray’s Email: jamurray@sd73.bc.ca
For questions about specific daily events, it is best to email the teacher who is in the classroom that day. For broader questions about your child's overall progress, please copy both of us so we can respond as a team. Thank you for your support as we embark on this exciting year together.
We are part of Pod 2, which consists of Mrs. Pavluks’ (visual art) Grade 3’s, Ms. Nadolny (Mrs. Reed)/Ms. Bouwmeesters’ (dance) Grade 3/4’s, and Ms. Covingtons’ (drama) Grade 4/5’s.
In the next few weeks we will spend some time getting to know each other and our school, setting our classroom expectations, taking precautions to keep us healthy and safe, and creating a positive learning environment. We hope to have some insight into their learning needs and strengths.
The expectations of students at this time is to come to school healthy and ready to learn, and to keep to their personal space and supplies. With this said, please provide your student with a water bottle, gym strip, running shoes, healthy snacks and lunches, and headphones.
Please avoid bringing personal items to school (eg.toys, slime, putty, electronics, Pokémon cards) due to the items being damaged, causing distraction and getting lost. Also, please do not send food containing peanuts/tree nuts. Also, there is no access to a microwave or hot water. Please use a thermos for warm meals.
Agendas will NOT be used this year. However, please check the daily folder for reminders, notices, special dates and homework. The best way to communicate with us is email and our classroom website https://sites.google.com/gedu.sd73.bc.ca/piroddi2023/home The purpose of this site is to keep you posted with reminders and information about KSA and our classroom. I will also be putting up useful sites on topics we are studying and photos. You can always come back to reference the site at any time.
Homework will only be assigned if work is incomplete from the day or to study for a test. We encourage reading every night, reviewing sight words (ex. said, because, why) and number sense concepts (ex. multiplication facts 1x-10x).
Attached is a blue student information sheet that we need completed asap. This helps me attend to your child’s needs as a learner and ensures strong communication.
Field Trips and Fundraisers. This year we are hoping to go on many field trips. These trips cost money and we will be fundraising throughout the year, such as greeting cards, bake sales and poinsettia sales. If you would like to volunteer please make sure you a have an updated criminal record check with us: https://www.sd73.bc.ca/ksa/volunteer-get-involved
We strongly believe that we are all a team in your child’s education and need to work together through checking in with your child about the day, communication, understanding, attendance, and patience. I encourage all of you to contact us via email or phone if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Sara Piroddi
Ms. Jayden Murray
