Joint Crisis Committee
TOPIC: THE MEXICAN-AMERICAN WAR
It is early 1846, and tensions are on the rise between the United States and Mexico. A few months ago, the de facto Republic of Texas formally declared its independence from Mexico and accepted annexation by the United States, becoming the State of Texas. Lingering conflict over the Treaties of Velasco, signed at the end of the Texan Revolution, has led to a disagreement over where the border truly lies, along the Rio Grande as asserted by the United States, or on the more northerly Nueces River. A first attempt at diplomacy has failed, and a small group of American soldiers that crossed into the disputed territory has been killed or captured by Mexican forces. As the news reaches D.C. and Mexico City, it is expected to be the flashpoint for all-out war.
The Joint Crisis Committee represents the most complex and challenging debate found in the Model United Nations. JCC consists of two separate subcommittees whose decisions affect both the crisis at hand and the other bloc. The goal of this committee is to lead your bloc to victory, through international espionage, sabotage and armed conflict.
As a continuous crisis committee, JCC is designed for experienced delegates. Position papers must be submitted by January 14, 2026, @ 11:59 PM PST.
For all inquiries about the committee in general, contact jcckmun@gmail.com. To submit position papers, please send them to the committee emails for each bloc, specifically kmunjcca@gmail.com and kmunjccb@gmail.com.

He is excited and honoured to have been selected as the Crisis Overlord for the JCC at KMUN 2026. From MUN, to public speaking competitions and leadership roles in his community Owen is prepared to draw upon all his experiences and his passion for the humanities to make this crisis a resounding success. JCC - A
Director - Ayaan Saad
Ayaan is a Grade 12 student attending Norkam Secondary School and a Second Year student of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. He is honoured to be the director of JCC’s Bloc A for KMUN 2026. Ayaan has participated in Model United Nations since 2020 as a member of ECOSOC. While at first being as loud as a doorknob, he now confidently leads group debates and generally finds MUN quite an enjoyable experience. Outside of MUN, he can be found reading, playing hockey and Ultimate, struggling over expository essays, as well as shooting arrows at a foam target. Ayaan is pleased to meet all delegates and can’t wait to oversee the debate.
Assistant Director - Aiden Marks
Aiden is a Grade 12 student and NorKam Secondary, attending his second year in the International Baccalaureate Programme. He is excited to be one of the assistant directors for the Joint Crisis Committee this year at KMUN. Aiden found his passion for MUN during his first conference in his Grade 10 year; from helping developing countries access vaccines, to moving the entire population to mars to avoid climate change, he is more than happy to take on a staff role for the Joint Crisis Committee at KMUN 2025. Outside of committee, Aiden can be found playing video games with his friends, baking, or playing volleyball at Henry Grube. He looks forward to meeting many new delegates at this year's KMUN conference!
BLOC B
Director - Anna Cameron
Anna Cameron is a grade 12 student attending Sa-Hali Secondary School, and is honoured to be joining Kamloops Model United Nations 2026 as a director for the Joint Crisis Committee. She attended her first Model UN conference in 2024, as a member of the Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee. While it took some time for Anna to find her footing, she found herself leaning into and loving the debate and conversational elements of Model United Nations. Outside of MUN, Anna can be found at the piano, painting on her patio, and, of course, debating with her school debate team. Anna is incredibly excited to be a part of this year's conference and is looking forward to meeting the delegates and facilitating the debates to come.
Assistant Director - Abby Zaharia
Abby is a grade 12 student at Sa-hali Secondary. In the past, she has attended several Model UN conferences in Vancouver and is very excited to work as an assistant director in KMUN 2025! After hearing about all of the fun and chaos that comes with a crisis committee, Abby is eager to bring all of her MUN knowledge to make JCC a fulfilling experience for everyone. In her free time, Abby can be found reading, complaining about school work, and hanging out with her dog. She is ready to do everything she can to help make KMUN a fantastic experience!
