I can share personal stories orally and in writing

I feel like I can share my stories very well I could talk to my friends about my weekend with details of what I was up to.

I can have a conversation with my boss or any other higher up.

And if I were to get asked to write anything with a bit of detail I know I could do that and it would come almost easy.

I am working on the social responsibility and communication core competency!

I can have positive interactions with people that are different than me or people who have a different opinion or belief than me.

For communication, my example shows that I can use online resources (social media or educational platforms) to discuss and to promote ideas.

Two days ago I had an intelligent debate on genders with a person on a chat room platform called Discord. We probably chatted for about 2 hours, I think I won, but they still disagreed, so we had to agree to disagree because I needed to sleep. We were both respectful of each other’s beliefs, (Even though theirs went against solid facts) I think I educated them a bit, it felt good to succeed. Generally speaking, I believe that I am competent in Communication. When reading through objectives of this Core Competency, I feel that I have demonstrated my aptitude in most of the areas. I think that I am successful at collaborating with others, at finding, evaluating, and sharing information, and at preparing and delivering a professional presentation.

We use communication skills regularly in our day to day lives, from conversations with friends to presenting a project. Therefore, this competency will always be relevant in our lives, no matter what career path one chooses. As someone who is striving to become a physiotherapist, being able to successfully communicate is incredibly important. You must be able to formulate questions correctly, understand what a patient is telling you, convey your ideas, and work with your colleagues.

Inquiry Project

As part of our Socials 10 course, we were required to complete a self-directed inquiry project. We had to describe the process we used to create our question and gather our information, summarize it in a slideshow, and present it to our class. The question that I created to satisfy the requirement was how World War II had an impact on German-Canadians. This project satisfies the Communication objectives "I can use online resources to discuss ideas", "I can share ideas using a variety of formats", "I can share ideas using a variety of formats", "I can find, evaluate, and share information on a variety of subjects", and "I can prepare and deliver a professional presentation".

Persuasive Essay

In our English 11 course, we were required to write a proper persuasive essay. The goal of this project was to learn the different methods of persuasion and then incorporate them in a properly constructed persuasive essay. The essay above, regarding the banning of single-use plastics, is the product that I created to satisfy this requirement, and satisfies the Communication objectives "I can recount events and share ideas for a variety of purposes" and "I can write essay to express complex ideas for a variety of purposes".

Remembrance Day Speech

Every year, Clearwater Secondary School holds a Remembrance Day Assembly. As the Student Council President, I was asked to speak and lay a wreath on behalf of the students. Above is a video of me presenting the speech that I wrote, which allowed me to further my skills in creating an official speech and speaking in front of a large and diverse audience. This speech satisfies the Communication objective ¨I can prepare and deliver a professional presentation¨.
