Service Learning & Credit Requirements

Graduation Requirements (Board Policy 350):

To earn a GDOE high school diploma, students must successfully complete 24 credits based on their educational path/graduation plan. Each credit towards graduation is representative of an appropriate course/subject taken by the student under his/her respective educational path. Courses taken from Guam Public Schools and/or from approved/accredited private schools will earn equivalent credits. The requirements to receive a high school diploma are as follows: (Board Policy 351.4)

Social Studies Requirements

1 Credit-History of Guam

1 Credit-World Studies (World History or World Geography)

1 Credit-Citizenship Studies (American Government or U.S. History)

Note: College students should take U.S. History and American Government

Math Requirements

1-Credit-Algebra I

1-Credit-Geometry

2-Credits –Remedial Math, General Math, Transition to Advance Math, Pre-Algebra (preparation for Algebra I and Geometry); any combination of advanced coursework, applied math, practical math, etc.

Note: College should take 4 credits of math

Science Requirements

1 Credit-Life Sciences or Bio I

1 Credit-Physical Science

1 Credit-Chemistry, Marine Bio, Physics, and other science courses available

English Requirements

4 Credits- English 9, 10, 11, and 12

Other Requirements:

1 Credit of each course: PE, Fine Arts, Health, and Chamorro, and 6 credits of College, Career, & Life Courses

Service Learning

As per Board Policy 350, student must complete 75 hours of service learning. Hours must be completed throughout the 4 years of high school in increments of 20 hours in the 9^th grade, 20 hours in the 10^th grade, 20 hours in 11^th grade, 15 hours in 12^th grade. Due to the pandemic, a waiver for Service Learning is being reviewed by our Guam Legislature.
