Our Year in Review: With 2020 coming to a close, let us reflect on what this year has taught each and everyone of us. This year has felt like a roller coaster ride, with a series of unpredictable twists and turns. Looking back, we have learned a great deal of lessons such as taking care of our health (physically and mentally), being resilient during these uncertain times and coming together as a community to provide a sense of support.
These lessons transformed us and brought out a need for us all to show that we CARE for one another. Transitioning to distance learning was no easy task, but here we are continuing the education from our homes through hard copy and online learning. Parents, students, teachers, faculty, staff and Administrators all working together and showing they care to keep the education going. The act of caring is what helped us get through these 9 months of distance learning and it was what will help us continue our learning journey in the months to come.
When a person shows that they care, they continue to make a positive difference for others and their community. Caring can come in many different forms. It can be as simple as being polite, showing empathy, teaching someone something new or even just taking time to listen to a loved one. With the holiday season here, another great way to show that you care is by showing compassion to those who are less fortunate by donating to those in need. These small and simple acts of kindness to show that we care can go a long way and provide us a sense of fulfillment and help us be genuinely happy.
As we close out the year of 2020, let’s pause and reflect on how far we have come and all the lessons this year has taught us. Let’s continue to model and show that we care and have compassion for others. Let’s look forward to a positive NEW YEAR!
Dear Student 💛
Feeling stressed? Feeling like you have too much work from school and/or home? Do you miss your family and friends? Feeling alone? Does it feel like your walls are slowly closing in on you? Feeling overwhelmed with too much to process all at once? It’s okay. You are not the only one feeling like this. It’s okay to have these feelings. What is most important is how you handle it.
Take a deep breath in...and breathe out...as you continue to take deep breaths in and out, think about the five senses...think of 5 things you can see, 4 things you can feel, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell, and 1 thing you can taste. Feeling a little better? We hope so.
Using the 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 method is just one of many methods that may get you into a calm and relaxed state of mind. Mental health or your mental well-being is just as real and important as your physical well-being. If you haven’t done so, you need to start developing coping skills. Skills that take your mind off of daily stress. Breathing techniques, drawing, coloring, exercising, swimming, making slime, playing with slime, etc. Developing such skills is very important because it teaches you to navigate through tough situations life may bring you.
If you or you know of someone going through difficult times and such coping skills are not helping, you may contact our school counselors or the following:

Looking ahead and setting Goals for 2021!.
Below is a list of activities to try out on your own. Each of these activities will help you create Goals that improve your habits in life. .. Place a checkmark in the boxes as you complete each assignment. This will help you keep track of the activities you have already completed. Don’t forget to write your name and team. Make Goals make a difference.
Squishies
You will need:
Clay
Balloon
Steps:
Roll clay into thin strips until it is string-like.
Carefully place clay into the balloon until you fill it to your heart’s desire.
Knot balloon.
Enjoy. Squeeze your balloon everytime you feel stressed or overwhelmed.
(You may replace clay for slime)
Blowing Bubbles
Use or create your favorite bubble solution (For one of the best bubble solutions - place 4 cups of warm water and ½ cup of sugar into a bowl and mix. Once sugar completely dissolves, add ½ cup of Dawn soap and mix; waiting a few hours makes the solution better but waiting is not necessary).
Place bubble wand (be creative...cut the bottom of a plastic bottle or paper cup or poke holes in a spoon) in bubble solution.
As you enjoy your bubbles, take note of what is necessary to create the biggest bubbles.
Reflection: What kind of breaths did you need to blow the biggest bubbles? The bigger the bubble, the bigger breath you need. The smaller the bubble, the smaller breath you need. Think of the bubbles as your worries, problems, or stress. Take the necessary breaths to help blow them away.
DIY (Do it Yourself) Lava Lamp
In an empty bottle or jar, fill it up about ¼ or 25% full.
Add vegetable oil, leaving about an inch left of the bottle or jar empty.
Add 8-10 drops of food coloring.
Add a teaspoon of Alka Seltzer (if using tablets, break into 4 even pieces; each piece is considered a teaspoon)
Relax. Enjoy. Be mesmerized.
Once Alka Seltzer has fully dissolved (no longer forming moving bubbles), place the cover on and store for later.
Use this for your next “Brain Break.” When you are stuck or feeling overwhelmed from doing school work, repeat steps 4 & 5. Use the time needed for the Alka Seltzer to fully dissolve as your little “time away” from work.
Please be sure to not crush your cans. Empty and rinse your cans that you are collecting and submitting to help prevent any contamination.
13 Gallon bags filled with cans will help you earn Hawk Points.
