Objectives
JROTC objectives are to develop in each cadet the following:
Appreciation of the ethical values and principles that underlie good citizenship which include integrity, responsibility and respect for authority.
Leadership potential with the abilities to live and work cooperatively with others.
Ability to think logically and to communicate effectively.
Importance of physical fitness and good health.
Knowledge of the effects and dangers of substance abuse.
Abilities of goal setting and positive self-esteem.
The history, purpose and structure of the military.
Knowledge of educational and vocational opportunities.
Importance of a high school education.
In meeting these objectives, this student-run program prepares students for life—not for the military. JROTC training gives students the skills needed to succeed in life.
Waccamaw High School's leadership and development program is more than just classroom academics. The JROTC program offers numerous extracurricular activities; most are organized and conducted by the cadets. Cadets are able to apply the knowledge gained in the classroom.
JROTC is truly the Battalion members’ home away from home. For those cadets choosing to participate in the program’s staff run extracurricular activities, competition drill teams practice either before or after school. Weekends are filled with drill and rifle competitions, field trips, campouts, adventure team training, color guard performances, and various Cadet Battalion Clubs, as well as numerous community and service learning projects. Those cadets who qualify will have the privilege of attending a week of summer camp in June.
The Warrior Battalion’s constant community participation and extensive “Service Learning Projects” makes them one of Waccamaw's most visible assets and important “Bridge to the Community.” Service is part of leadership and citizenship. The cadets will provide 2,000 service hours annually to the school and community. JROTC knows the best way to learn citizenship is by the promotion of patriotism and community service. This service will make a significant contribution to the community and an even better effect on our cadets. They take great pride in knowing that they have each made a difference in the world.
