The third class musician test is the first set of requirements that must be added to your e-portfolio. You are expected to complete a minimum of three requirements per nine weeks unless there is a pre-verified need for you to complete them after that time period. You may complete up to six requirements per any given nine weeks unless you are authorized to submit more.
Cut and Paste the requirements and the evaluation rubric into a google document, add the document to your e-Portfolio folder and begin work. Your director will date and e-initial each requirement as they are completed and assessed using this rubric.

Ear Training: Demonstrate the ability to distinguish between major and minor chords, as played on the piano by the director.
Tuning: Demonstrate understanding of flat and sharp. Demonstrate how to tune your instrument to notes given by director.
Time values: On staff paper, correctly write 5 measures of 4/4 time, 5 measures of 3/4 time and 5 measures of 2/4 time with no two measures being alike. Use at least one of each of the following kinds of notes and rests: eighth, quarter, half and whole.
Chromatic Scale: Play from memory a chromatic scale, 1 octave ascending and descending in 8th notes where the quarter note = 100 beats per minute.
Major scales and arpeggios: Play from memory ascending and descending, 1 octave Major scale and arpeggio in G, Ab, Bb, C, Eb and F concert. Scales must be played in quarter/eighth note pattern at 100 beats per minute.
Key signatures: Recognize and name key signatures from requirement #5.
Rhythms: While tapping foot, correctly count and play selected rhythms from 3rd class rhythm sheet.
Musical terms: Receive a perfect score on an oral examination covering 15 musical terms listed in the third class musician resources.
Fingering Chart: Prepare a fingering chart showing common fingerings covering the range used in requirements #4 and 5.
Order of flats and sharps: List the order of flats and sharps as they appear in a key signature.
Long tone: Sustain a long tone at a mf volume for 20 seconds. (15 for basses, 10 for flutes)
Etude: Perform a selected etude chosen by the director demonstrating correct rhythm, pitches, articulations, dynamics and tempo.
Community: Receive 5 credits for participating in or attending music related community activities or attend music related school-sponsored events for which you are not a member. Each activity will be worth 1 credit. Please keep documentation from the event to add to your musicianship portfolio.
Citizenship: Demonstrate correct attitude, behavior, responsibility, and cooperation in all band activities.
