The first class musician test is the third set of requirements that must be added to your e-portfolio. You are expected to complete a minimum of three requirements per nine weeks unless there is a pre-verified need for you to complete them after that time period. You may complete up to six requirements per any given nine weeks unless you are authorized to submit more.
Cut and Paste the requirements and the evaluation rubric into a google document, add the document to your e-Portfolio folder and begin work. Your director will date and e-initial each requirement as they are completed and assessed using this rubric.

Ear Training: Correctly distinguish between selected chords, as played by the director on the piano. Major, minor, diminished, and augmented triads.
Minor scales and arpeggios: Play from memory, ascending and descending, the following harmonic minor and melodic minor scales in a “senior high” range in Eb, F, G, A, Bb, B, C, and D concert.
Chromatic scale: Play from memory, ascending and descending, the “senior high” range chromatic scale in 8th notes where the quarter note = 120 beats per minute
Major scales and arpeggios: Play from memory, ascending and descending, all major scales and arpeggios in “senior high” range.
Key signatures: Recognize and name all key signatures of major and minor keys from 7 flats to 7 sharps.
Rhythms: While tapping foot, correctly count and play 15 selected rhythms from 1st class rhythm sheet.
Musical terms and tempo markings: Receive a perfect score on an examination covering 50 common musical terms.
Pitch Tendency: Using a tuner, list the pitch tendency of each note in “senior” high range.
Articulation: Play a one-octave chromatic scale. Use the following articulations each time through. Slur, Legato tongue, staccato, slur-2 tongue-2 , tongue-2 slur-2, off-beat tongue, Marcato = cap accent, and bell-tone accent.
Intervals: Recognize when seen and heard, and be able to play the following intervals: Perfect Unison, Major 2nd, Major 3rd, Perfect 4th, Perfect 5th, Major 6th, Major 7th, and Perfect Octave.
Long tone: Sustain a note for 40 seconds. (30 for basses, 25 for flutes, 45 for oboe)
Etude: Prepare and perform an appropriate level etude chosen by the director.
Community: Receive 5 credits for participating in or attending music related community activities or attend music related school-sponsored events for which you are not a member. Each activity will be worth 1 credit. Please keep documentation from the event to add to your musicianship portfolio.

Solo: Prepare and perform a Grade 1-3 etudes chosen by the director on snare, timpani and keyboard.
Timpani tuning: Demonstrate ability to tune timpani to selected intervals. Intervals required will be m2, M2, m3, M3, P4, P5, M6
Rudiments: Play from memory, the 1st 13 NARD rudiments, from slow to fast to slow.
Accessories: Perform an etude demonstrating proper playing techniques on Triangle, Tambourine, Crash Cymbals, Suspended Cymbal, Bass Drum and Gong.
Major scales: Play from memory ascending and descending, all major scales and arpeggios. Play full range if the keyboard at 100 beats per minute.

Musical terms and dynamics: Receive a perfect score on an examination of 50 common musical terms.

Four Mallet Technique: Demonstrate proper Steven’s and Burton grip. Play a short exercise using both grips.
Latin Percussion: Demonstrate knowledge of proper playing technique, playing area, and perform a short characteristic pattern on each instrument. Instruments include congas, bongos, cabasa, clave, timbales, maracas, shaker, cowbell and agogo bells.
Dampening Techniques: Perform a short etude demonstrating proper dampening techniques on the vibraphone and bells.
