The second class musician test is the second set of requirements that must be added to your e-portfolio. You are expected to complete a minimum of three requirements per nine weeks unless there is a pre-verified need for you to complete them after that time period. You may complete up to six requirements per any given nine weeks unless you are authorized to submit more.
Cut and Paste the requirements and the evaluation rubric into a google document, add the document to your e-Portfolio folder and begin work. Your director will date and e-initial each requirement as they are completed and assessed using this rubric.

Etude: Prepare and perform an etude selected by the Director from an approved method book, demonstrating correct rhythms, pitches, dynamics, tempo and articulations.
Time values: On staff paper, correctly write 10 measures of 4/4 time, 4 measures of 3/2 time, and 5 measures of 2/2 time, 5 measures of 3/8 time, 5 measures of 6/8 time, and 5 measure of 6/4 time, with no two measures being alike in rhythm. Use at least one of each of the following kinds of notes and rests: 16th, 8th, dotted 8th/16th, quarter, dotted quarter, half, dotted half, and whole.
Chromatic scale: Play from memory, ascending and descending, the “junior high” range chromatic scale at the rate of 3 tones per second.
Major scales and arpeggios: Play from memory ascending and descending, 1 octave major scale and arpeggio in Gb, A, B, Db, D, and E concert. Scales are to be played in a quarter/eighth note pattern where the quarter note = 100 beats per minute.
Key signatures: Recognize and name key signatures from requirement #4.
Rhythms: While tapping foot, correctly count and play selected rhythms from 2nd class rhythm sheet.
Musical terms, dynamics, and tempo markings: Receive a perfect score on an oral examination covering 10 musical terms and 12 tempo markings listed on back of sheet, and demonstrate the 6 levels of dynamics.
Fingering chart: Prepare a fingering chart showing common fingerings covering the entire range of your instrument. Include all enharmonic spellings of notes.( i.e., D#-Eb)
Minor Scales: Play from memory, ascending and descending, 1 octave pure minor scale in the keys of F, G, A, Bb, C, and D concert. Play in same style and tempo as major scales.
Intervals: Recognize when seen and heard and be able to play the following intervals: Perfect Unison(PP), Major 3rd(M3), Perfect 5th(P5), and Perfect Octave(P8).
Long tone: Sustain a note for 30 seconds.(20 for basses, 15 for flutes)
Circle of Fifths: Draw the circle of fifths, listing all keys, key signatures, and accidentals for each key.
Community: Receive 5 credits for participating in or attending music related community activities or attend music related school-sponsored events for which you are not a member. Each activity will be worth 1 credit. Please keep documentation from the event to add to your musicianship portfolio.
Citizenship: Demonstrate correct attitude, behavior, responsibility, and cooperation in all band activities.

Timpani tuning: Demonstrate ability to tune the timpani to selected intervals. Intervals required will be P4, P5, M6.

Major scales and arpeggios : Play from memory ascending and descending, 2 octave major scale and arpeggio in Ab, Bb, C, Db, D, Eb, F and G concert. Scales to be played in quarter/eighth note pattern at 100 beats per minute.
