Math homework will be assigned daily, except on Fridays or test days. Science homework will only be given occasionally, as most work is completed in class. Students are to complete their homework each day and turn it in the following school day. It should take about 30 minutes to complete their homework, and an hour total for both ELA and math combined.
Completed work is done in pencil (unless otherwise stated), and shows the student's work or attempt at work. Wrong answers are not considered incomplete. However, homework with questions left blank, writing just answers with no work, or writing "I don't know" is considered incomplete. If a student does not have their homework at the beginning of class (i.e. left at home, can't be found in backpack, forgotten, etc.), it is considered missing.
Please Note: It is school policy that 2 or more missing or incomplete assignments will result in a Friday Homework Detention.
**Parents!** If homework is taking longer than 30 minutes (or 1 hour total), or you don't have time to complete the homework due to other home activities, you can sign the homework (or write a note to me explaining) and your student will still get full credit. Students may also earn a homework pass, which can be used if homework is ever forgotten or not finished.
There are videos and extra practice for everything we study in class on your student's Google Classroom account to help you study at home. Be sure to check there often! Students will have their login and password written in the Student Planner.

Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to the 2020 – 2021 school year! It is hard to believe that summer has passed so quickly, and it is time for your child to go back to school now, as a 5th grader. We look forward to meeting each and every one of you in person once that time comes. You and your student will receive a zoom meeting link where we will go over information regarding our classroom policies, procedures, and a variety of ideas to help you provide the best learning environment for your child.
The meeting will start at 8:30AM on Monday, August 10, 2020. Please email your teacher to receive your zoom meeting link.
To make the Distance Learning experience more enjoyable please help your 5th grader to join our google classroom.
Go to classroom.google.com
Use your child’s school ID email to login. (9800…@gcccharters.org) Password: Capital Initials and Birthday (SK030386) Initials, Month, Day, Year last two digits) No spaces.
Find the + sign on the upper left corner, click on “Join a class”.
Type in the class code, which will be given in the first zoom meeting.
You did it! Welcome to our google classroom!
If you are having difficulty joining the google classroom, email me with your child’s first and last name, and I may forward the codes for your student.
Most of you have already purchased helpful school supplies for your child. The following are items that would be particularly helpful for our 5th graders:
Computer, tablet, or laptop (a phone is not sufficient)
Internet access
A working webcam (most laptops have a built-in camera)
Paper/notebook
Pencils & pens
Computer mouse
Computer-compatible headphones with a microphone
Quiet workspace
It will be a fun, exciting, and challenging year. Your support and guidance at home is critical for your child’s success. Please establish a time and an area at home for your child where he/she can study. We will work to teach students how to be respectful, responsible, have good study skills, and increase their motivation to learn. With your support, we can achieve great results in your child’s education.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Cole & Mrs. Kurdoglo
