The Gateway We Know And Love

Students And The Impact Of Gateway

By: Sydney Barnes

My name is Sydney and I am the education reporter for The Gateway Gazette. I was inspired to write about education because I like to learn. I wanted to interview a couple of kids about their thoughts on Gateway and how this unique school helps them learn. I interviewed five students about their Gateway experience.

Question 1: How has mindfulness benefited you?

I found that most kids like mindfulness because of how it calms them down and helps them think better when they are learning.

Question 2: Has Gateway’s small class sizes helped you learn? If so, how?

I learned that lots of kids said that small classes help because it gives you more individual time with the teacher and you can focus more. It’s also not too loud.

Question 3: Do you prefer tactile, book-in-hand learning or using technology?

Mostly, everyone liked technology because it’s easier to work with, but some people said they liked books better because you can actually turn the pages yourself. They also said with books, nothing gets deleted.

Question 4: Do you ever feel overwhelmed about homework?

All of the answers were basically the same: sometimes, because of after school activities, but we have a reasonable amount of homework.

Question 5: What is your favorite thing about Gateway?

A lot of people had a hard time answering this question because there are so many things that stand out, but they mostly said they liked Gateway because of the nice people. Some others said they liked Gateway because of life lab, art, field trips and music.

Clearly there is a lot to appreciate about Gateway, and kids are benefiting from this school thanks to its unique characteristics and dedicated staff. We are lucky to be here.
