Shared Reading is an interactive reading experience that occurs when students join in the reading of a big book or other enlarged text with teacher guidance and support.
The teacher models reading or shares in the task of reading to help students expand their literacy understanding. In shared reading, the teacher and students all have a copy of the same text (could be projected or copied onto chart paper if the text is short). In shared reading, the teacher reads a text to students with appropriate fluency while sharing and applying reading strategies. In shared reading, the students follows along while the teacher reads the text aloud, perhaps motivating them to join in or take over from time to time. This is an excellent way for the whole-class to study the same text with teacher support.
