School-Based Therapy
School-Based Therapy is a therapy service that is offered at all Gaston County Schools. York Chester Middle School works with Gaston Adolescent Center for all school-based therapy services. SBT promotes emotional health for students within their school setting. Therapists work directly with caretakers and school staff to identify students who may benefit from therapeutic services. Services provided include individual and family therapy, crisis intervention, staff consultation, and appropriate referrals to other mental health services, if needed. School-based therapists provide therapeutic counseling in dealing with emotional and behavioral problems.
Referral
Parents, school staff, or counselors can request a referral, which is filled out by a school counselor. Parents must complete and return the signed referral form.
Referral Review
Gaston Adolescent Center reviews referral information and contacts the parent/guardian to set up an intake appointment with the student and parent/guardian.
Intake
The student and parent/guardian complete an intake assessment, which addresses needs to determine appropriate services.
Services Begin
The student begins working with the school-based therapist. Parents are asked to join the first meeting to be part of goal setting.
